Darnell Brown is a distinguished entrepreneur, brand coach, content creator, writer, speaker, and designer. Born in Chicago, IL and currently residing in North Carolina, he’s been honing his craftsmanship in the visual and literary arts ever since the age of 5. Empowered by The Great Recession of 2008, he catapulted into the graphic design freelance industry as a self-employed asset serving the needs of over 100 clients of all sizes. Within a few years, his brand equity grew considerably, as he helped two tech startups raise over $2M in investment capital between 2011-2013, by producing engaging content and irresistible designs. I want this book to blow your mind.

I want you to find it provocative, funny, awesome and practical. I want you to not be able to put it down because you see yourself in the contents. I want it to be the best hour you'll spend in a book this year. I want you to feel like you can do anything by the end of it. I want it to connect with you. I want it to matter.

But this ain’t about me. This is about you. And this is my first book. Me, I’m just a kid from Chicago. Though I’ve got imagination in spades and I’m alright with words, so at least there’s that. But am I ready to do this authorship thing? Will anyone care? Shut up, self-doubt!

Ready? Set? No.

I don’t know if y’all are ready for this. Just as much as I don’t know if I was ready to write this book. But then again, are we ever truly ready for anything, anyway? And is the time ever perfect?

Too early? Often. Too late. Surely. On time? Crickets.

This book is an exercise in un-readiness. My life’s conditions at this moment aren’t the sexiest. Yet for some genius reason, I decided on the last days of 2016, that I’d finally write a damn book the following month. Something that would engross the reader, enlighten them, entertain them and empower them. Something raw and unapologetic. Something not too early or too late. Something that just is. Something that felt...right.

As the year came to an end, the picture got clearer. It would be a tight 10 chapters in length. I’d call it, The Bulletproof Hustler. It would be written in 10 consecutive days flat, at a pace of a single chapter per day. Oh, and no more than 1,000-ish words per chapter. Guess I quite fancy ones and zeros.

And now that the 10-day voyage has ended, it’s my job to sell you on why you should read it. Yay! Let’s get straight to it...

A Hustler Near You.

Call me naive or idealistic, but I don’t think of Hustlers as bad people. On the contrary, I find them to be fascinating and compelling. Good people - misunderstood. People that have overcame great adversity; people that have made names for themselves; people whose education by experience took them much further than any education from schooling ever could’ve.

Good or bad, Hustlers are born within harsh environments and upbringings. People misplace them; they overlook them; they don’t think much of them. Until they hustle their way through anything you throw at them. Then you can’t ignore them or disregard them. By that point, they’re powerful. Influential. Persuasive. They’re hurricanes; utter forces of nature.

Some Hustlers had to do things they weren’t proud of to keep the lights on. Lying. Cheating. Stealing. Selling dope. They hustled from a place of desperation and cynicism. Some Hustlers found breakthroughs by being adept in a trade or talent they honed during their youth. Singing. Rapping. Balling. Dancing. They hustled from a place of pride and craftsmanship. Both groups of Hustlers shared a common mission; they aimed to go from surviving to thriving. In other words, they said ‘no’ to the status quo.

This is a book about moving forward. Breaking barriers. Improving ourselves personally and professionally. Serving ourselves well so that we can serve others even better. It’s written for the Hustler with a conscious. That’s my rift on the stripper with a heart of gold. The Hustler that is intentional, righteous, good-spirited. And anyone who wants to be more like this type of Hustler.
