    INTRODUCTION

One of the things that I believe makes being a human being so great is that we have the ability to change anything we are doing at any time in our lives. One of my favorite teachers, Jim Rohn, talks about our ability to greatly alter the course of our lives with the idea that our destination is determined by our direction. In other words, we can make changes overnight that will allow the course of our lives going forward to change as a result. Imagine waking up tomorrow with an entirely new outlook and direction simply because you made the decision to make changes in key areas of your life today.

As a child, I believe I was extremely fortunate in that I had parents who were extremely intelligent, passionate, and loving no matter what my brother, sister, and I wanted to pursue. In fact, I remember a number of occasions where I was actually surprised that they both supported me in choices that many of my friends didn’t have support in when they made them. My parents both understood the value of passion and how their passion for things in their lives had shaped not only who they became but also the incredible lives that they both led as a result. Is this the same for you? Do you believe that you are following your passion and living the life you want to be living?

One of my favorite Henry David Thoreau quotes says, Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you imagined. Another favorite quote of mine is from Robert Frost and says, Two roads diverged in the wood and I—I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference. Quotes like these and many other inspirational words, along with my experiences in life, have led me to share the reasons why I believe that everyone, yes, everyone, has the opportunity to live the life he or she has imagined and take the road less traveled. Not only do I believe it, but I will also share a number of examples that I believe will help people to see that even when the odds are against you and the chips are down, you can still change direction anytime you want.

I do want to provide a word of caution here. I never said this would be easy or that it would not require you to, in some cases, significantly change your mind-set from where it may be today. It also may require other people in your life to change their mind-set in order for you to begin to live these changes yourself. The truth of the matter is that we all have reasons (including other people in our lives) why we may believe that changes in our lives can be anything from easy (certainly not the majority in my experience) to impossible (based on current limiting beliefs) when it comes to actually following through.

My goal for you in this book is simple. I want to share a number of stories of people, including myself, who had limiting beliefs along the way, but made the decision to follow their passions and live their lives anyway. We have all heard the saying that there is fear and pain in change, which I believe has a great deal to do with why people stick to what they are doing and don’t end up pursuing their passions. However, the reality is that we only get one chance at life, right? If we choose to let it go by because we decide to live on Someday Isle, as Brian Tracy calls it, then the opportunities to pursue our passions disappear over time, and we pass on without ever knowing what we were truly capable of accomplishing.

I want to challenge you to read this book, dig deep within yourself, use the tools that
