Conquer your Purpose - Jean-Claude Leveque

    Introduction

Life is for living; that’s a truth.

Life is also extremely short, another truth.

So, do you actually like where you are right now? Is your current destination a pitstop on your way to greatness, or do you feel like you’re completely lost somewhere without a compass to guide you?

From time to time in life, it is completely normal to feel a little lost, but the key is to make sure you know this and make changes before you go from a little lost to completely wandering around in the dark with no clue what your own name is.

Life throws us curveballs and it’s very easy to simply settle with what we have, assuming that we’re happy, but it’s only when you look back, probably when you’re old and grey, that you realise you missed the mark by miles.

As a result, you’re left with regret and aims you wish you’d tried a little harder to reach.

That’s a common story, but it’s not one that has to be yours.

Whether you’re 21, 81, or anything in-between (or maybe older), it’s never too late to change your direction and move towards something that you really covet in life. Whether that’s changing your career and retraining completely from scratch, or looking to buy a house overseas and saving up for a deposit first, the subject matter doesn’t necessarily matter, but the fact that you’re making steps towards achieving it does.

This book is going to challenge your current situation in life. It’s going to help you look back and decide whether you’re comfortable with your current destination or whether you wish it was somewhere else entirely.

At first, it might feel uncomfortable, because you might be faced with the reality that you wish you’d taken a completely different path in life. That’s okay, but it’s important you allow yourself to feel that realisation in order to ensure that you don’t become complacent and remain in your comfort zone.

It was Neale Donald Walsch who said that life begins at the end of your comfort zone and there has never been a truer word said. Life isn’t designed to be easy or super-comfortable, it’s supposed to challenge you, and it’s supposed to make you strive for more. You can’t be expected to make powerful changes in life without feeling a little of the fear and doing it anyway. Another rather wonderful quote right there!

So, this book is going to push you and make you think. Once you’ve thought about it, we’re going to help you develop a new journey, one which will take you where you want to go, and one which will allow you to reach the aims and dreams you have in life, without having to sit back and wish you’d tried a little bit harder, somewhere down the line.

We’re going to identify your purpose, then we’re going to follow a series of analogies that take your purpose and turn it into a road-trip journey. There will be scenic routes and there will be boring motorway sections, there might be bumps in the road and occasionally you might end up with a flat tyre, but with a little perseverance, a little road-side assistance occasionally and a good quality map, i.e. your own desire, you’ll get to where you want to be in the end. You might run out of gas occasionally, but remember, there is always a station not too far away.

So, grab your flask and a blanket, we’re about to get into the car and fasten our seatbelts. We guarantee this is going to be the ride of your life!

    Chapter 1:

What is Your Purpose Right Now?

Depending upon which source you try, there are a couple of different definitions for the word purpose. They are:

The reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.

A person’s sense of resolve or determination.

So, using those two definitions which link together very well, what is your purpose in life?

The fact you have picked up this book tells us that you might not actually have one at this point. That’s fine because that means the book is going to be very useful to you and may just change the path of your life for the better.

For the, pardon the pun, proposes of this book, a purpose is a reason for doing something. So, that means you need an aim and a purpose in order to make the whole thing work. Which comes first? It’s almost a chicken and the egg kind of situation, but first, you need the aim in many ways, because that then informs you of why you’re doing it. Or, perhaps you know why you want something, you’re just not sure what is going to get you there. In that case, you have the purpose before the aim.

If you have a clue what your purpose or your aim is at this moment, you need to sit down and do a spot of careful thinking. The good news is that you have plenty of time and you only need a slight inkling to get started. The rest of the book will guide you through the process of turning a small idea into something great.

If you do have a purpose right now, it’s a good idea to jot it down somewhere. If you have an idea, jot that down. At this point, basically do a quick brainstorming session of anything that pops into your mind, which may inform your purpose or your aim. That is your key starting point.

    Creating Your Life’s Journey

There are not many people who know what they want in life from a young age. There is certainly social pressure to know, but if you surveyed a large group of people, a very considerable selection would tell you that they have no idea what they want to do and didn’t have a clue at a young age either.

We’re basically drifting through life with no clear aim and therefore no purpose. We are on a journey to literally nowhere. We’re lost, bumping from place to place and about to run out of petrol.

    That’s never a good thing!

Your journey begins the day you are born, but you cannot make headway into your real midsection until you’re old enough to know what you want to do. That point can come when you’re 14; it can come when you’re 50, it might not come until you’re almost 70. Many of us also have several different ideas which we assume to be our focal point, but as we start on the way towards reaching them, we decide that we didn’t give it enough thought in the end and we change direction once more.

It might also be that you had an idea and it was a good one, but you hit a roadblock, and rather than trying to traverse your way around it or calling for help, you gave up and decided to walk in another direction.

The point here is that your life’s journey is full of twists and turns, but if you want something badly enough, you have to be prepared to do the planning and do the hard work.

Before we get into the hard work of trying to figure out your exact purpose, although we’ve already urged you to write down a few ideas if you have any, you need to first acknowledge where you are right now. Again, write it down in the most simplistic way you can think of, as we’re going to unpick this as we move through the first few chapters.

So, if you’re currently working as a nurse and you have dreams to travel one day, write it down. If you’re a footballer, write it down. At this point you don’t have to add your dreams to it, but if any crop up, scribble them down.

    You Believe What You See

If most of us don’t have a clue what we want in life until we’re a lot older than we’re supposed to know, what does that really mean? Does it mean that we believe the things we see when we’re younger and we grow and assume that happiness is simply ‘being’?

For some people, that is the meaning of true happiness, and if that’s you right now, well done. In that case, you might not need this book at all! However, the chances are that there are at least elements of your life you’re not so happy with.

We believe the things that are in front of us and we’re not told to challenge or attempt to change them. Why? Because they’re there in front of our eyes, so they must be true! The thing is, somethings are nothing more than an illusion, and because you can see them in physical form, you might completely misinterpret their meaning.

Life is a little deeper than the things you simply have in front of you, and by taking things at face value, you’re missing out on some very
