Dedication
This book is dedicated to my amazing children. My daughter, Vienna I. Pender, and my son, Vaughn I. Pender. You give me life. Thank you for understanding and allowing me time to write this book and start my business. I always want to be a good example and the best mother for you. I am so proud of the people you are turning out to be. I hope you are proud of me and that I have shown you how to pursue your passions.
I love you!
God has a destiny planned for you. Let Him direct your path!
Acknowledgments
First and foremost, I would like to thank God. All the trauma, hurt, pain and sleepless nights I endured over the years gave me the wisdom to write this book, to be a vessel, and to impact others. I now see how you were directing my path for me to end up where you needed me to be. I now see that nothing I have been through has been wasted.
To my brother Reginald Price and his wife LaTricia, thank you for your love and support. You guys are always my cheerleaders. Reggie, you have always been there for me. From a little girl on, I’ve always known I can depend on you. I remember you buying me my first camera, the first version of Polaroid cameras. You taught me how to drive as a teenager. You then taught me how to drive a stick shift as an adult after I purchased a sports car that you had to drive from the car dealership for me. You are selfless. Reggie, not only are you my big brother, you are my confidant and best friend. I love you!
To Angela T. Boyd, one of my oldest and dearest friends, thank you for always being a good friend. Thank you for allowing me to cry to you during my darkest moments, for listening to the good, bad and ugly stories of my life and never judging me. Thank you for always telling me to remember my worth.
To the Pilates Babes, Evette Armer and Marilyn Carroll, we started out in Pilates class together but have become friends. Thank you for your excitement and support when I shared my plans to build my business. Thank you for being the first listeners of my podcast, Trina Talk.
To Coach Fard Bell, thank you for showing me I had this book inside of me. I was hesitant and doubtful I could successfully write a book. Your coaching caused me to look deep inside myself and realize I did have a story to tell. You made me see that my story, experiences and wisdom are valuable and worth sharing.
To my editing and design team, I would like to say thank you. You helped bring this book to life! Your expertise, creativity and professionalism guided and assisted me with ensuring that my vision for this book was clear. I enjoyed working with you and this will not be the last time!
Introduction
I wrote this book because I was tired of trying to prove to myself and others that I wasn’t the awful things my mother said about me. I was tired of settling for the wrong people to love me, not knowing my worth, and not being true to myself.
I had a verbally abusive mother, and all my life she called me lazy, ugly, and an ungrateful daughter because she thought
