Humans. What a bunch of weirdos. In all other species, threats to well-being and existence arrive externally. You’re an impala? Gotta keep an eye out for the lions. You’re an ant? Stay away from sunlight and magnifying glasses.

Humans are unique in that we are both capable and willing to put ourselves in situations that are not ideal for our survival. Our intelligence means that we’re able to create all kinds of amazing industrial advances and technologies that contribute to the ease of daily life, but we can’t moderate them so that they’re not affecting us negatively. In fact, we probably don’t even realize how detrimental all of this handy stuff can be to our well-being, blinded as we are by the fun of having whatever we need, whenever we need it (and even when we don’t).
