Born and educated in erstwhile Madras, Smt.Vijayalakshmi has to her credit many stories and articles published in Tamil magazines. Her illustrated retelling of Valmiki Ramayana titled “ Raman Kadai” published by the prestigious Kalaimagal Kaariyaalayam, with a foreword by Sri Chandrasekara Saraswathi , Shankaracharya of Kanchi , was well received not only in Tamil Nadu but in Srilanka and other places as well. This was later published as ‘Ramana Kathe ‘in Kannada as well. Her travelogue covering South India , in Tamil received encouragement from Sri.Rajaji and other eminent Tamil writers. Moving to Mysore upon marriage, she taught herself Kannada and started translating her Tamil works. “ Aa Rahasya Haagoo Itara Kathegalu” a compendium of delightful short stories with moral lessons for children , was written in Kannada and it received the Karnataka Rajyotsava award for children’s literature in 1970 at Mysore. Being a trained artist ,Smt .Vijayalakshmi has illustrated all her stories herself. ‘ Keliri Nanna Katheya’ a story providing infotainment is another Kannada creation that brought her popularity. Vijayalakshmi , now an octogenarian currently lives with her sons at Mysore.

ಕುಮಾರಿ ಮೈಥಿಲಿಯ ನೃತ್ಯವನ್ನು ನೋಡುವುದೆಂದರೆ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಮನಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲೇ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಉತ್ಸಾಹ. ಇಷ್ಟು ಚಿಕ್ಕ ವಯಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲೇ ಅವಳು ಹೇಗೆ ಈ ಕಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಇಷ್ಟು ಪ್ರಖ್ಯಾತಿ ಪಡೆದಳೆಂದು ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ಆಶ್ಚರ್ಯ. ಅವಳ ಮುಖಬಾವ, ತಾಳ, ಆಟದ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆ ಇವೆಲ್ಲವೂ ಅವಳನ್ನು ಪ್ರಖ್ಯಾತಿ ಪಡೆದ ದೊಡ್ಡ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಕಲಾವಿದರಿಗೆ ಸಮವಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿಬಿಟ್ಟಿತ್ತು,

ಮೈಥಿಲಿಗೆ ಹೆಳಿಕೊಡುವ ಗುರುಗಳೇ ಅವಳ ಗೆಳತಿಯರಾದ ಲಲಿತಾ, ಪದ್ಮ, ಪ್ರಭಾ ಮುಂತಾದವರಿಗೂ ನೃತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಹೇಳಿಕೊಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಆದರೆ ಅವರುಗಳ ಮುಖಬಾವ ಮತ್ತು ಆಟದ ಚಟುಚಟಿಕೆ ಇವೆಲ್ಲಾ ಮೈಥಿಲಿಯ ನೃತ್ಯದ ಮುಂದೆ ಶೋಭಿಸಲೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಆ ಹುಡುಗಿಯರು ಬಹಳ ಬೇಗುದಿಗೊಂಡು, ಮೈಥಿಲಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಅಸೂಯೆ ಪಡಲಾರಂಭಿಸಿದರು.

ಏನು ಪದ್ಮ...... ನಾವೆಲ್ಲ ಒಂದೇ ಮೇಸ್ಟರ ಹತ್ತಿರವೇ ನೃತ್ಯವನ್ನು ಕಲಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇವೇ.....ಹಾಗಿರುವಾಗ ಮೈಥಿಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ಹೇಗೆ ಇಷ್ಟು ಪ್ರಖ್ಯಾತಿ ಪಡೆದಳು? ಎಂದಳು ಲಲಿತ.

ಏನೋಮ್ಮ, ನಾವೂ ನಮ್ಮ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಾದಷ್ಟು ಚೆನ್ನಾಗೇ ಆಡುತ್ತೇವಮ್ಮ...... ಇದ್ದರೂ ಅವಳ ಅದೃಷ್ಟ.....ಅವಳ ನೃತ್ಯವನ್ನು ನೊಡಲು ಜನ ನೆರೆಯುವರು. ನಮ್ಮ ಆಟ ಶೋಭಿಸುವುದೇ ಇಲ್ಲ.... ನಮ್ಮ ದುರದೃಷ್ಟ..... ಎಂದು ಕೊರಗಿದಳು ಪದ್ಮ.

ಊಹೂಂ…..ಅದೃಷ್ಟ ಏನೇ ಅದೃಷ್ಟ! ಅದೆಲ್ಲಾ ಇಲ್ಲಾ ಕಣೆ..... ಮೇಷ್ಟರಿಗೆ ಅವಳು ಏನೋ ಲಂಚ ಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾಳೆ ಕಣೇ...... ಅದಕ್ಕೇನೇ ಅವರೂ ಕೂಡ ಅವಳಿಗೆ ಪ್ರತ್ಯೆಕವಾಗಿ ಹೇಳಿಕೊಡುತ್ತಾರೆ ಎಂದಳು ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಕಿಚ್ಚಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಉರಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದ ಪ್ರಭಾ.

ಇವರುಗಳು ಹೀಗೆ ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಿರುವಾಗಲೇ ಮೈಥಿಲಿ ಏನ್ರೇ......ಏನೋ ಬಹಳ ಉದ್ವೇಗದಿಂದ ಮಾತನಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದೀರಿ? ಎಂದು ನಗುತ್ತಾ ಕೇಳಿದಳು. ಮೈಥಿಲಿ ಬಹಳ ಒಳ್ಳೆ ಹುಡುಗಿ. ಅವಳಲ್ಲಿ ಕೊಂಚವೂ ಗರ್ವ ಇರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ಅವಳ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತಿಯರೇ ತಮ್ಮ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆ ಕಿಚ್ಚಿನಿಂದ ಹಾಗೆ ಅವಳ ಮೇಲೆ ದೂರು ಹೇಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು, ಅಷ್ಟೇ.

ಮೈಥಿಲಿ ಹೀಗೆ ಕೇಳಿದ ಮೇಲೆ ಲಲಿತ, ಏನಿಲ್ಲಮ್ಮ.....ಎಲ್ಲಾ ನಿನ್ನ ನಾಟ್ಯದ ಪ್ರಶಸ್ತಿಯ ವಿಚಾರವಾಗಿಯೇ ಮಾತಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದೆವು. ನಿನ್ನಷ್ಟು ನಮಗೆಲ್ಲಾ ಅಭಿನಯಿಸುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಬರೋದಿಲ್ಲವಲ್ಲ, ಏನುಕಾರಣ ಎಂದು ಯೋಚಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೆವು..... ಎಂದು ಹೇಳಿದಳು.

ಅದಕ್ಕೆ ಮೈಥಿಲಿ ಅಯ್ಯೋ...... ಬಿಡೆ...... ನಾನೇನು ನೀವುಗಳು ಹೊಗಳೋಹಾಗೆ ಆಡಿಬಿಡಿತ್ತೇನೆಯೇ? ನಿಮ್ಮ ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಆಡುತ್ತೇನೆ ಎಂದಳು.
