    ‘ಡಾ|| ಸುಕನ್ಯಾ’s ಸಾಮಾಜಿಕ ಕಳಕಳಿಯ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದು ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಭ್ರೂಣಹತ್ಯೆಯ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಜಾಗೃತಿ ಮೂಡಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಚಲನಚಿತ್ರÀ ಹಾಗೂ ಕಿರುತೆರೆ ಧಾರಾವಾಹಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ರಚಿಸುತ್ತಿರುವÀ ಬಹುಮುಖ ಪ್ರತಿಭೆಯ ಸಾಹಿತಿ ಜೆ.ಎಂ. ಪ್ರಹ್ಲಾದ್‍ರವರು ‘ಡಾ. ಸುಕನ್ಯಾ’ ರಚಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ವಿಜ್ಞಾನ-ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನದ ಆವಿಷ್ಕಾರಗಳು ಮನುಷ್ಯನ ಜೀವನಮಟ್ಟವನ್ನು ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಸುವಲ್ಲಿ ಸಹಕಾರಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ಮಹಿಳೆಯ ವಿಷಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾತ್ರ ಮಾರಕವಾಗಿ ಪರಿಣಮಿಸಿರುವುದು ದುರಂತದ ಸಂಗತಿ. ‘ಧ್ವನಿ ಅಲೆಗಳ ಸ್ಕ್ಯಾನಿಂಗ್’ ಮುಖಾಂತರ ಲಿಂಗ ಪತ್ತೆ ಮಾಡಿ ಹೆಣ್ಣಾಗಿದ್ದಲ್ಲಿ ಭ್ರೂಣಹತ್ಯೆಗೆ ಮುಂದಾಗುವುದು ಕಾನೂನಿನ ಪ್ರಕಾರ ಅಪರಾಧವಾಗಿದೆ. ಮಹಿಳೆಯ ಮೇಲಿನ ದೌರ್ಜನ್ಯ, ಅತ್ಯಾಚಾರಗಳು ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗುತ್ತಿರುವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಲಿಂಗಾನುಪಾತದ ಇಳಿಮುಖವೇ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಕಾರಣ. ಡಾ|| ಸುಕನ್ಯಾ ಕಾದÀಂಬರಿಯ ಭಾಷೆ, ಶೈಲಿ ಸರಳವಾಗಿದ್ದು ಕುರಿತು ಕೊನೆಯತನಕ ಕುತೂಹಲವನ್ನು ಕಾಯ್ದುಕೊಂಡಿದೆ. ಈ ಕಾದಂಬರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಜ್ಯೋತಿಷ್ಯವನ್ನು ನಂಬಿ ಮಗ, ಸೊಸೆಯನ್ನು ಇನ್ನಿಲ್ಲದಂತೆ ಕಾಡುವ ಅಂಬುಜಮ್ಮ, ಸ್ನೇಹಿತನ ಮುಗ್ಧತೆ, ನಂಬಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಬಂಡವಾಳವಾಗಿಸಿ ಸಲಹೆ ನೀಡುವ ನೆಪದಲ್ಲಿ ವಂಚಿಸುವÀ ಧೂರ್ತ ಪುರುಷೋತ್ತಮ, ಅಮಾಯಕ ಆನಂದ, ಎಷ್ಟೆಲ್ಲ ಸಂಕಟಗಳನ್ನು ಅನುಭವಿಸಿದರೂ ತನ್ನ ಮಗುವನ್ನುಳಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವಲ್ಲಿ ಸರಳಾ ಪಡುವ ಪಾಡು, ವಂಚಕರಿಗೆ ಸರಿಯಾದ ಬುದ್ಧಿಕಲಿಸುವ ಡಾ|| ಸುಕನ್ಯಾಳ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳು ಓದುಗರ ಮನಸೆಳೆಯುವಲ್ಲಿ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿವೆ.

    ‘Dr. Sukanya’, while being an entertaining read, highlights the social evil of female foeticide. While science & technology have helped mankind grow by leaps and bounds, it is also sad to know that the same is used for atrocities against female foetuses. Even though Sex Determination Test is illegal in India, it is practised widely across the country. The declining sex ratio between males and females is proof to this fact.

    ‘Dr. Sukanya’ highlights this social evil using simple and easy-to-understand language, while, at the same time, it keeps the reader hooked with its many twists and turns.

    This novel deals with many different characters who have their own agenda. Ambujamma has immense faith in astrology, which makes her commit atrocities against her own son and daughter-in-law. Another shady character, Purushothama, takes advantage of his friend’s blind faith on him and cheats unabashedly. Sarala, in spite of facing all odds, tries valiantly to save the child in her womb. How Dr. Sukanya plays an important & integral part of each character and ensures that the bad elements are meted out justice, forms the storyline. The narration of the story is sure to keep the viewers guessing as to what happens next.

    The novel is written by Shri. J. M. Prahalad, a prolific writer who has more than two decades of experience in the field of entertainment and who has won innumerable awards for his creativity and writing skills.
