Her heart ran like a forge, thumping away at her ribcage. Breathless, head rushing, she waited through several rings, the phone held tightly against her ear.

A chipper male voice answered soon enough.

Um, I'd like to make a reservation… Piper repeated the words she'd practiced, too nervous to initially comprehend what the restaurant host was saying.

What day and time are you looking for? he asked.

Is there… a Friday at eight open?

She gulped, waiting for the young man's light humming to end.

Yep, one spot left, he finally said.

She tensed up, and gave her information in a daze.

So it was actually going to happen…

Great, I've got you down for Friday at eight o'clock, he continued. You sound a little flustered, if you don't mind me saying. Big night?

Nodding without realizing it, Piper gave an affirmative noise. Gonna tell someone I love them.

Romantic! He laughed. Well, good luck. We'll see you Friday at eight o'clock!

She brought the phone down after the call ended, staring at it with distant eyes. Finally saying it out loud meant it was real… and having a scheduled reservation meant it was actually going to happen.

At a set time, at a set place… it was out of her hands now, really.

All she had to do was get to Friday.

That was a simple enough thing… just survive until Friday without messing anything up or doing anything stupid…

Noticing movement, she looked across the room, where Laura lay prone in bed, watching her with those green eyes that she shared so strongly with her sister, her expression unreadable.

Morning, Piper said lightly, trying to mask her alarm. Did you just wake up…?

Yeah, Laura responded after a moment. I might head out tonight. Izzie seems like she's feeling better.

Definitely, she said with a smile, relieved that the brunette hadn't heard her phone conversation.

Sitting through her first day of classes completely oblivious and out of sorts, Piper used all of her willpower just to grab the syllabus for each class. Every so often, she felt her phone vibrate, and surreptitiously responded to a text from Isabella. The texts weren't anything deep or important, but every single one made her heart sing.

She rushed home from her last class, excited.

Isabella sat within already, doing her makeup with her dress up around her waist. Hey! she said, smiling warmly in the mirror. I know we had some shenanigans to make time for tonight, but we gotta go out instead. The blonde glanced down meaningfully.

Alright. Moving past her girlfriend, Piper noticed a familiar waifish and feminine body on hands and knees between Isabella's legs. A long brunette pixie cut bobbed with the efforts of the girl beneath. Laughing, Piper slapped her on her jean-clad butt. Hey, Marlene!

Marlene responded with an embarrassed noise, but did not stop what she was doing.

Isabella took a deep breath, trying to keep focus while doing her makeup. "You know, this was supposed to be you," she commented.

Didn't exactly go according to plan, did it? Piper taunted, her tone mischievous. She leaned in and gave her girlfriend a smooch.

My lipstick! the blonde complained, not really annoyed at all.

Laughing lightly, Piper continued on to their shared bed and plopped down. Where are we going tonight?

Looking at her in the mirror, Isabella gave a little nod down toward Marlene. Somewhere that we might run into your friend.

Quieting for a serious moment, she wondered what Jessie had been doing in the month and a half since they'd stopped being friends. Did it bother her, too? Did she think about it and feel hurt over the whole thing?

Watching some girl toy busily licking her girlfriend, Piper began wondering whether what they were planning to do was even a good idea. Was manipulation really the best way to get a friend back?

Isabella stopped doing her makeup for a moment, her body tensing. Stop.

What? Marlene asked from below, surprised. I thought you were about to…

Yeah, I was, the blonde told her firmly. "But I'd like to save my energy for Piper. She is my girlfriend, after all."

Oh… Marlene crawled out and up awkwardly, not sure what to do next. Red-faced, she wiped her mouth with an embarrassed swipe, and then moved to the opposite bed and sat there trying not to make eye contact with anyone.

Isabella picked up her phone. Oh, it's the girls. I'll be right back.

After she stepped out, Marlene looked up in consternation. I don't… she makes me feel bad sometimes.

Piper put on a compassionate expression, hiding the fact that she was secretly amused and amazed at how easily Isabella could manipulate the unsuspecting girl. She can be a little callous, she pretended to admit. She knew exactly what her girlfriend was doing. Isabella being just a little too mean about it all, so that Marlene would later jump at someone who was anything but mean - Jessie. Sorry.

It's alright, the embarrassed brunette responded quickly. To tell the truth, I don't even know how she got me to do it in the first place. I came over expecting to go out to the bars, and she just started talking, and then I was… getting on my knees… She shook her head, trying to make sense of her own actions.
