Friday morning began in slow darkness, the constant pummeling sound of rain against the balcony doors bringing a tired silence to the girls' wakening rituals. Nobody dared turn on the light and risk shouts of hungover aggravation, so the first half hour of shuffling and slowly dressing went by in dimness.

Still, Serena couldn't help but feel intensely excited. She'd been wary of the plan to seduce her best friend, and she'd felt a little forced into it by her cohorts in crime, but she'd thought about it all night and morning. Just what was Nicole's game, anyway? She was always manipulating and watching… if not for the pink-haired girl's machinations, spring break would have been an awkward week of getting hit on in bars by college guys. As they'd arranged secretly the night before, Kim and Claire went down to the breakfast buffet by themselves, leaving her alone in the room with Nicole.

Do these get adult channels? Serena asked, stretching on her bed.

I'm watching cartoons, Nicole replied, her tone low with hungover misery.

I know… Serena insisted, squirming on her bed with a pleading smile. But it's nice to have some time to myself this morning… it's been a little crazy, having four people in the same room.

Sure. Nicole picked up her phone from the nightstand and threw it over.

Perplexed by the unexpected turns her seemingly simple plan had taken, Serena tried to figure out how to engage her best friend. Um, what sites do I go to?

Nicole took it, typed something in, and then returned it. That one'll have more than you could ever need. She turned back to the cartoons.

Thanks, Serena replied, frowning.

Serena couldn't argue with that, feeling rather foggy herself, but that fog was nothing compared to her anticipation. Lying down on her back next to Nicole's upright hand, she found a good position to watch the phone's video and also touch herself.

Even in the small things, she realized, her friend could be manipulative.
