Oh, Lizzy!’ Jessica dropped her fork onto her plate and jumped up from the table to hug her friend.
They had been sitting in Jessica’s garden, eating paella under the grapevine, when Lizzy had refused a glass of wine and announced she was two months pregnant.
‘It wasn’t planned,’ Lizzy continued happily, ‘but we’re both delighted. And Jed can’t do enough for me. I know we haven’t been together long, but somehow it just feels right.’
‘It’s wonderful news, Lizzy! And I have to say, pregnancy suits you.’
It was true. Looking at Lizzy now, sipping contentedly on her orange juice, Jessica realised she’d noticed the change in her the minute she’d stepped through the gates at Palma airport. Lizzy was more beautiful than ever, but her restless energy had been replaced by a calm self-assurance, which suited her.

Lizzy explained she had been nervous about breaking the news to the producer of Hobson’s Harbour, the TV soap opera she was appearing in. But she needn’t have worried. The producer wanted to keep Lizzy in the cast and was presently negotiating writing her pregnancy into the story.
