The next couple of days passed by in a bit of a blur. Jessica had taken on three new singing students and had been busier than usual. She was grateful for the extra work because it had left her less time to dwell on the situation with Lizzy.
She made a point of not tuning in online to Hobson’s Harbour, the popular soap opera in which Lizzy was becoming a household name, and she tried to resist constantly checking her mobile for a text from her.
Jessica’s disappointment following Lizzy’s lukewarm response to her text the previous weekend meant she’d temporarily put Veronica and Lillian’s message in a bottle to the back of her mind. It wasn’t until Wednesday evening that she eventually texted the phone number that Veronica had included at the end of her message.
She had almost resigned herself to the fact that the number would be out of date, considering it had been 11 years since the two women had launched their bottle. She was therefore pleasantly surprised when, not half an hour after sending her text, she received a reply from Veronica.
Veronica expressed her delight and utter disbelief that the bottle had been discovered and thanked Jessica for contacting her.
It’s simply wonderful, she wrote. After 11 years! And that it should wash up in Sóller is all the more incredible.
She explained that she and Lillian had shared a wonderful holiday in Sóller when they were in their 30s. The place holds such special memories for.
