Mia sat on the couch, surrounded by her three friends, holding a little white pill. To her introvert sensibilities, the plan for the night sounded like a very bad idea. In truth, it was Jordan's pressure that Mia had the hardest time resisting. Her raven-haired best friend had evolved her sharp makeup and confidence significantly over the summer, turning from a similarly introverted brunette into… someone that Mia was a little intimated by. They'd all gotten this shared apartment to ensure a great living environment for freshman year, but, only two weeks in, she was already feeling cornered.

Even redheaded Clara, the most dour and sarcastic of the four friends, seemed into it. Come on, Mia, it'll be weird if you're the only one not doing it.

Feeling someone idly playing with her hair, Mia turned to look at the thin blonde to her right. Arm curled along the top of the couch, Audrey touched her hair with a strange smirk. Just do it, we'll have fun.

Jordan pressed a glass of water into her hand.

Jesus, fine! she finally relented, if only to get her friends off her case. With a swig of water, she gulped the pill.

The past two weeks had been full of moving and classes and parties and craziness, so nobody had had time to worry about setting everything up… and the television was Audrey's, and she was always so messy and disorganized anyway…

Unraveling a huge pile of wires with a sigh, she listened to her friends talk idly behind her. Clara seemed to be texting somebody, while Jordan and Audrey compared notes on attractive guys in one of their classes. They didn't seem to be 'getting high' or anything… as she worked, Mia kept studying her own heartbeat and breathing, but she couldn't tell if anything was out of the ordinary.

Deciding everything was plugged in after nearly a half hour of untangling and guessing, she turned on the television and flipped the input back and forth, finding nothing. Frustrated, she checked all the wires a second time, still unable to make it work. Feeling rather hot and frustrated, she couldn't help but blurt the words. What the fuck?

Whoah! Jordan called from the couch. "Mia swearing? This stuff must be stronger than we thought!"
