About this ebook

That evening Paula and I were at the 'Riverside', a fine restaurant in Marlboro. The year before after seeing a sixty-five-foot sailboat anchored in the deepest part of the river I met her then spent a long weekend on the boat that she co-owned with an extended family she was part of. Months before a car pinned me against the wall of a building forcing the amputation of my leg. Having one leg upset me less than a life of being a heavyset woman. She gave me a wonderful device that allowed me to trade bodies at will.

She held my hand across the table. "Where are we going on our next trip?"

We lived together and traveled, usually to the Caribbean, sometimes to the coast nearby. I loved going although I was blind. The body I currently used was from a catalog entry labeled Mona - tall, willowy, with two long legs, perky breasts, all the things that caused heads to turn. I had used this body for a while before visiting Dr. Knight to have my vision destroyed, something the doctor did for many other people as well.

"Hmm, that place we went to last month was very fine."

"Tropical breezes just makes you sexier."

She let go of my hand to take a sip of wine. I did the same. It was a wonderful merlot, and a variety we both enjoyed. Paula was missing one arm; otherwise, she would have continued to hold my hand. I loved the shape and the feel of the armless shoulder and kissed it often when we made love.

"Hah," I laughed. "Sexy is you in that one-piece thong made out of about three square inches of fabric."

"I thought blind people couldn't see."

"I don't have to see to feel all that bare skin. Maybe I should slip into a different body when we get home, something more to your liking. I know how you like it when I don't have legs."

Peggy Buxton

Author, wife, lover, and amputee. I have been missing my left leg for years. Growing up I felt that it should not be there, and it is has been a blessing to have it gone. Today's term for this condition is BIID and in the past simply referred to as being a 'wannabe'. I am a full-time crutch user. Like my husband, I find amputees fascinating. 'Devotee' is the frequently used term. My stories have characters that mirror my life in some manner - wanted/needed to be an amputee or want to live with an amputee. I make no apology for my descriptions of these people and there is no intent to take away from the suffering of some amputees. I love feedback on the stories, but I cannot promise to reply.
