Peggy Buxton

Author, wife, lover, and amputee. I have been missing my left leg for years. Growing up I felt that it should not be there, and it is has been a blessing to have it gone. Today's term for this condition is BIID and in the past simply referred to as being a 'wannabe'. I am a full-time crutch user. Like my husband, I find amputees fascinating. 'Devotee' is the frequently used term. My stories have characters that mirror my life in some manner - wanted/needed to be an amputee or want to live with an amputee. I make no apology for my descriptions of these people and there is no intent to take away from the suffering of some amputees. I love feedback on the stories, but I cannot promise to reply.

    * * *

During Nina’s last term at the university, she moved into a flat with three students thanks to a recent departure. Judy, Sandy, and Leah, were as different as night and day from each other. There were only two bedrooms, each with two small beds, smaller than each had since childhood. They studied in the dinning room, living room, or wherever there was space and quiet.

Judy shared the bedroom with Nina. Fortunately, they were both neat and kept the room clean. Sandy and Leah rarely picked anything up. Their bedroom stayed in a constant state of disarray, though most of the mess was on Leah’s side of the room. The major point of contention was the rest of the flat. They would have left it like their bedroom, so Judy and Nina took turns cleaning.

A friendship had quickly developed between Nina and Judy. Both were between boyfriends and usually had breakfast at a diner near the campus on the way to class.

Did you hear Sandy and Leah last night? Judy said, almost in a whisper as if it were a state secret. They were just leaving the diner and crossing the street to the campus.

I hope she had an orgasm. Nina laughed.

When did that start? I thought Leah was hot on Dave.

Nina just shrugged, grinned, and continued to walk along side Judy.

Maybe we should give it a try, Nina finally said then chuckled.

Not as if we have a line of guys wanting a date. Judy groaned. Have you.... She became silent, not wanting to finish.

I had a girlfriend in high school. She’d spend the night. Sometimes she’d roll over in bed and kiss me. It actually felt nice. She slept naked, so I started as well when she visited. Yeah. It was nice.

    I had no idea.

Not as if I go around announcing I was almost a lesbian for a while. How about you?

Nina took Judy’s hand and spent a moment looking at her face. She could feel her roommate’s fingers playing with hers, not trying to be free.

Three of us went camping often. We’d had several beers and were feeling no pain. I guess it started as a dare, who would kiss the longest. I didn’t want to stop. I’d kissed boys before, mostly in the backseat at the drive-in. There was something about her kiss. I was in heaven.

    Just the one time?

Between you, me, and the sidewalk...no.

    Anything more than a kiss?

Judy snickered. Uh-huh. The same one that kissed so nicely, dared us to see how far we would go. It didn’t take long for the three of us to be doing a lot more than kissing. It was then I had my first orgasms because of another person. I’d masturbated, gotten off often. Having someone else doing it to me orally was really great.

Whoa-a. Ever had a guy go down on you?

Once, but I could tell he wasn’t into it. I gave him a blowjob and actually enjoyed myself. I don’t know what his problem was.

Yeah. I haven’t had a guy do that, but I have sucked a few guys off. My girlfriend and I did each other some nights that she slept over. I can totally see how women fall in love with other women.

Hmm, Judy said, grinning. Maybe we should....

    Yeah. Maybe we should.

Nina was home alone when Judy returned. She had a late class that day. Neither knew when the other two would return. They just showed up when they did. Nina was hunched over an opened book, and a spiraled notebook, opened. Both halves visible, covered with writing.

Judy leaned down and kissed her on the neck. A second one quickly happened.

Missed you too, Nina said, still writing, but sounding as if she’d rather return the kiss.

Don’t stop. I just wanted to do that.

Hmm. Nina laid the pen down then turned, smiled. I thought about our conversation.

I was a bit of a wreck. Glad I didn’t have any exams today.

Nina stood, stepped closer, let her lips take Judy’s. There was no rush, no embarrassment, no shame. The kiss continued, slowly without much passion at first. Judy’s hand found a breast, kneaded, rubbed softly. Nina’s tongue slowly pressed inside, as if testing some unwritten rules.

Hmm, Judy moaned quietly, felt a hand on one of her breasts.

    You okay?

    Uh-huh.

    We could sit.

    Yeah. We could.

Nina tugged at the tee shirt, pulled it free of the jeans. Judy didn’t have a bra on. She didn’t need one. The nipple responded nicely to the touch.

Maybe sitting isn’t the right thing.

    No, I have a feeling it isn’t.

Judy took a hand, led Nina to the bedroom. There, she undressed, and lay on her side, watching Nina undress.

I’m glad.... Judy whispered, but didn’t finish.

It won’t mess thing up, between us...will it?

Not as if we’re going to become lovers.

    Nah, no it isn’t.

Nina and Judy left the diner, cups of coffee in hand. Neither knew what to say. Maybe they did, but were afraid to acknowledge their feelings.

    It was good, Nina whispered.

Very good, Judy said not much louder.

Maybe we should do that again.

    What? Judy snickered.

Cuddle in the middle of the night.

    Small beds suck.

    You kiss nicely.

    You taste great.

    You too.

    Uh-huh.

Too bad we both have legs.

Yeah. Would have so much more room in bed.

Maybe just a quickie to help promote sleep.

    Good idea.

A woman walked past in the distance. She used crutches, a leg missing. She wore jeans, a tee shirt, had long blond hair, nice looking from what Nina could tell from the distance. Then the woman was out of sight.

    What? Judy said.

A woman with one leg over there. Nina pointed. She’s gone now.

    Really?

    Uh-huh. Haven’t see her before.

You look for women with one leg? Judy laughed.

I’m often curious what that would be like.

How long have you wondered about such things?

I don’t know, maybe forever it seems. There was a woman with one leg, downtown when I was growing up. She worked at a store Mom would go to. The way she walked fascinated me. I even found myself dreaming for a while that I lost a leg.

    That’s unusual.

I don’t know. I can’t be the only person. Would you still enjoy cuddling with me if I had a missing leg?

Sure, if you were anything like last night.

    That’s good to know.

Why, are you off to a surgeon today?

Nina laughed. Not that I know about.

Judy gave Nina a once over glance. You’d look good with one leg. Some nice forearm crutches, colored to match your outfit. Oh, a nice high-heel shoe. Yeah. You’d be smokin’ hot.

    Quit teasing me.

    I wasn’t, but I’ll leave it alone.

The woman walked back across, still too far away to really see her, or approach her.

    Nina pointed. See?

I’d want you to dress in a short skirt, show off that nice ass of yours, Judy whispered.

    Would my stump show?

How would you feel about that?

Odd maybe. I don’t know. Nina gave her a quick kiss on the lips. Got to get to class. Love you. She waved then walked quickly away.

Judy watched Nina’s hips move for a moment then hurried off in the other direction, where she last saw the amputee.

Please don’t be gone. I must see you up close. I can’t believe you were just here, and I missed you.

Judy had never seen the woman before. Her heart raced, pounded hard in her chest, threaten to leap from its confines. Her mouth was dry. It was the way she always was after seeing an amputee from afar, not being able to do anything but remember the brief encounter.

God, Nina, if you were to lose a leg, I’d ask you to marry me in the blink of an eye.

She walked quickly, almost running, trying to not look like a fool. She knew where the sidewalk was where the woman had been. She had walked it herself a thousand times over the past few years. It went from the administration building to a parking lot. Judy had worked part-time there off and on, mostly in accounting or the registrar’s office.

The woman was not to be found. Judy sat on a bench hoping for a second chance. She missed her class. This was more important. Breaths did not come easy. Her heart still raced. She felt faint. She had not had it so bad before, but Nina’s mention of missing legs plus the woman had made it much worse.

    Fuck, where are you?

Hey-y, Judy, Karen said in a very friendly manner.

    What’s up?

Judy stood, stepped a little closer. Karen worked in the administration building, not in either department she had.

"Helping a new woman get her feet on the ground. Well, I should say foot since she is missing a leg. Karen laughed. Ah, that’s rude of me. Sorry. Forgive me."

Yeah. I forgive you. Judy laughed. One leg? How is she?

Better than I would be. Too bad she has a husband, otherwise, I’d make a move on her. She’s one hot looking lady.

Really? I didn’t know you were into women that way?

"Hell, after Robert cheated on me, I kicked his ass to the curb. Some chick comforted me as I was getting lost in a few beers one night. Next thing I knew we were waking up in the same bed. It was most refreshing. Karen laughed. You’ve had some loser boyfriends, so you know how hard it is to find a good man."

Uh-huh. A hard man is hard to find, too. Judy laughed.

One leg, huh? And married. How does he feel about that?

I don’t know. She just started today. What little I do know, it sounds as if they were together a short time then the amputation happened. I guess he might not mind.

    Whoa-a. What happened?

That, I don’t know. You sound interested?

    Ah, not really.

Aw, hell, Judy. It’s okay to get turned on by stuff like that. I’ve told you about my little kinks.

Yeah. Does your girlfriend like to choke you?

We take turns. God, I love it. What are the odds of two of us landing in the same bed? Karen laughed. So, are you interested in finding a chick with one leg? Maybe Lori knows someone? I could ask.

    My heart couldn’t take it.

    Okay, Judy meekly said.

Hey, don’t have to. Just thought you seemed interested. Like I said, I totally would understand being into that. I’ve read some stuff about it, and other kinky shit. I thought mostly men were into amputees. Whoa, I’ve always wanted to talk to someone that was.

    Why?

Just curious. I once met a woman missing two fingers. Karen folded the last two fingers back. She’d chopped them off in the kitchen with a meat cleaver, nice and even...on purpose, too. Then I happened to see her a year later and damn if the other hand weren’t missing just above the wrist.

    What happened?

She’d found some surgeon to amputate the hand. I’d damn near climaxed when she licked that stump a few times. I don’t know whether she understood the effect she was having on me.

Did you ever see her again?

No, too bad, huh? Can you imagine?

    Where’d you see the woman?

A body-mod convention across the border with all kinds of odd interests there. I noticed two other amputees, but didn’t get to chat.

I guess Lori didn’t go there. Judy laughed. Yeah. Text me if you get any leads.

Did you miss a class hoping to see her?

    Is it that obvious?

Nah. But nice to know. Karen chuckled and walked away.

Judy waited a moment for no reason in particular before walking to her next class.

Whoa, a missing hand...and on purpose, too.

Would Nina go to that surgeon?

What if Lori has a guy friend that is an amputee?

    In a heartbeat.

Judy walked in the area where she saw the woman with one leg. Class was over for the day, and she had time. She didn’t see her. She even waited for fifteen minutes. It was always that way. See a someone in the distance, then never again.

She always felt the same way after a sighting - an emotional wreck. There was a twinge of guilt, and a lot of excitement.

People could stare if I had one leg.

    God-d. That would be fantastic.

    It’ll never happen.

The whole deal is so frustrating. I can’t stop thinking about it.

I can’t stop thinking about her, Nina told Judy when they were cuddled together late at night.

    I know.

Judy nuzzled her lips against Nina’s then gently kissed them. It felt wonderful to have bare skin against bare skin. She stroked Nina’s back down to the rounded shape of the hip. When the hand started down the thigh, she stopped after a few inches.

    Whoops, it stops here.

    Such a tease.

They kissed for a few minutes, at times passionately.

Would you want that? Judy whispered.

Something makes me think you’d like it if I did.

Ah, was just thinking about our conversation, the way you seemed to respond to seeing that woman.

I won’t deny that it stirred some primitive feelings from my childhood. Still, I have no way to make something like that happen. Do you?

No, darling. I don’t. I guess.... Judy kissed again. I guess, I just wanted you to know I understand. I even would hope you’d feel free to talk about those feelings.

I’m guessing you have them too.

    Uh-huh.

Nina and Judy waited where they had seen the woman with one leg. Karen had said her name was Lori. The buzz of the caffeine had Nina fully awake.

Can’t believe we are both waiting for her, Judy said.

    Me either.

    What if we see her?

What if we were both like her?

Yeah, Judy moaned. That would be fantastic, don’t you think?

    Uh-huh. You think she’s a student?

    Nah. I have a confession.

Okay, I’ll be your priest. Nina laughed.

I know a woman in the admin building where I’ve had some part-time jobs. Anyway, I bumped into Karen yesterday. She mentioned a woman with one leg had just started working there, and with her.

    Whoa-a.

Yeah, my thought exactly. Karen’s a bit strange, but she also mentioned having been to some body-mod conference where there were some people that had elective amputations.

    No shit-t!

Lying, I’m dying. Judy laughed. So, Lori has a husband, damn it. I have a feeling Karen is going to put me in touch with her. Maybe we can both have a chance to talk to her.

I’m ready. What happened to Lori’s leg? Nina licked her lips.

Karen didn’t know, but did say it happened after the wedding.

You think the hubby is into amputee women?

    Wouldn’t doubt it.

    I’m going to be wreck.

Judy nodded, glanced towards where the woman had been, then back at Nina. She grinned, quickly kissed Nina on the lips, then walked towards her morning class.

Frozen in place, Nina’s feet would not move. All she could think about now, and for the past two days was the woman with one leg, and how easily Judy had accepted her feelings.

    If I had one leg.

If Judy and I had our own place.

    After
