    Chapter One

Maria de la Rosa knelt on the filthy bathroom floor, scrubbing the toilet in the master bathroom of the house she dreaded cleaning every week. The single man who lived there was an absolute pig. It almost seemed as if he willed himself to never hit the toilet when he relieved himself. Cleaning his toilet was something she had to force herself to do every week. She consoled herself that he was one of her employer’s oldest and best-paying customers.

He better pay good, she thought to herself as she cleaned up his unconscionable mess. Especially if he can’t even manage to point his dick in the direction of a hole nearly two feet in diameter.

Mr. de la Rosa, can you move your toes? the doctor asked.

Yes! her father proudly announced, though his face grimaced in pain. See?

His feet didn’t move so much as a fraction of an inch.

Mr. de la Rosa, tell me when you feel something in your feet, the doctor ordered.

OK, his dad said, clearly befuddled.

Maria looked in horror as the doctor dug a stainless steel instrument sharply into the skin on the bottom of her father’s feet. Just looking at it made her cringe. She glanced up and saw her father acting as if
