Finally! I was out of school. My first year of college was finished. I had packed up my dorm room and made the drive back to my parent’s house. I attended school in a large college in the city. I loved everything about city living. The constant change of people, the never-ending litany of things to do, food from every part of the world—I was sincerely disappointed to move back home. Rent in the city was expensive however; my scholarship covered my rent during the school year, but without that, there was no way I could afford to live anywhere in the city limits. And so I threw my life into my car and made the two hour drive back to the small town where I was raised.

I felt like I had grown up a lot a college. I knew it was probably just in my head but I felt less like a little girl and more like a woman. My frame, once rail thin had filled out. My breasts were now full C cups. I had started wearing my brown hair down, it was longer than it had ever been. It fell past my shoulders. I tried to dress more fashionably—classy with a touch of sexy. I went from being a tomboy to the kind of girl that turned more than a few boys’ heads. I enjoyed the new attention I got. For the first time in my life I looked in the mirror and saw a woman—not a little girl.

I was thrilled to see my parents when I made it home, they were so proud of me! Their only daughter, done her first year at school. I unpacked my things and moved them into my old room. They hadn’t changed a single thing. It still somehow felt different, like I had become an adult and my room remained a kid’s room. We talked all night about what I had been up to at school. I was the first in my family to go to college, so I was committed to my studies. I hadn’t had time for a boyfriend, but I had plenty of time to get out and see the city. I knew I was going to be in for some culture shock, jumping from the city to my tiny hometown.

Two weeks later, I understood just how big a culture shock it was. I had applied for a job everywhere in town. In reality, this meant I talked to the owner of the restaurant, the local fast food places, the superstore, and the grocery store. None were hiring, of course. So I was stuck at home. I tried to text my friends from high school, but it seemed like all of them had left town—either chasing better jobs or staying at their respective colleges. They were wiser than I, doing everything in their power to avoid this small little town.

And so, with nothing left to do. I sat around. My parents worked, so every day I found myself alone in the house, struggling for something—anything-- to do. I watched TV, I worked out, I chatted on social media with my friends, but mostly I just liked to lay out in the yard and work on my tan. I figured if I couldn’t actually
