My leave from the Army, prior to my likely deployment to Afghanistan was going well. I had arrived home just in time to see my dad and his girlfriend leave to go out of town on a trip that he was required to make for business. While I did regret not being able to spend time with them, it did have the incentive of leaving me at home with my dad’s girlfriend’s daughter, Lacey.

Barb, my dad’s girlfriend, had moved in with my dad when Lacey was twelve and I was fifteen. They talked about getting married, but never did make that jump.
