About this audiobook

From the bestselling author of the hugely popular thrillers Things We Do in the Dark, Little Secrets, and Jar of Hearts comes Wonderland, a roller coaster of a listen. Now in audio for the first time!

After a personal tragedy and professional scandal forces homicide detective Vanessa Castro out of Seattle, she takes a new job in Seaside, Washington, determined to make a fresh start for herself and her family. The small beach town, best known for its popular amusement park, Wonderland, seems like the perfect place to raise her young son and teenage daughter.

But it's not that easy starting over, especially as the town's new Deputy Chief of Police. When a dead body turns up at the park her first day on the job, and then a teenage Wonder Worker goes missing, Vanessa's investigation is met with resistance. After all, Wonderland is the largest amusement park in the Pacific Northwest, attracting tourists from all over the country and providing thousands of jobs for the locals. A scandal that hurts the park hurts the town, but the more questions Vanessa asks, the more questions arise . . . especially when she learns that the missing teenage boy is the not the first park employee to disappear. The deeper she goes, the more she begins to suspect that the terrifying rumors about Wonderland's dark past might actually be true.

Surrounded by secrets, lies, and corruption at the highest levels, Vanessa's family is now in the center of a serial killer's twisted game . . . and there's nobody she can trust but herself.

What can I say? This author never disappoints me? This is a book that I did not see the end in coming. And the ride was indeed a roller coaster. I enjoyed every twist and return in every loop.

Liked it, didn’t love it. The story felt a bit predictable and fell kinda flat for me. Narration was great, though.

I always enjoy Hillier’s work. Good to see Jerry! Great book for sure, but not her best in my opinion.

Wonderland is not a place I wanna visit, but the setting does make for a great thriller. Vanessa, after a series of tragedies, has moved herself and her two kids to Seaside. She's the deputy chief of the police department. Her predecessor left quite a mess, and now she is trying to clear it up. In the meantime, the Wonderland amusement park has reported a dead body and seems to be linked to several missi g 18 year old former Wonderland employees. Can she undo this city mess and solve the missing, not to mention protect her children. While the entire town seems to be more worried about how it will affect the towns big money draw of Wonderland. It's definitely a gripping story with lots of are they who we think they are moments. Great suspense and action-packed moments.

I've really like most of the Jennifer Hillier books I've read, some more than others. This is actually an older book (2015) that was released in 2023 for the first time as an audiobook. And while it isn't my favorite Jennifer Hillier book, it was still pretty darned good. She's so good at creating seriously demented people doing seriously messed up stuff. And this time she sets all these demented activities in Wonderland, a popular amusement park in a small beach town on the coast of Washington state. It's atmospheric and full of characters that keep you guessing who really dunnit. The narration of the audiobook is quite nicely done by Eunice Wong. In the end, I found myself hoping there'd be a sequel - I enjoyed the main characters and wanted more.
