This was probably my favorite book of the whole series. I thought this one had a ton of action, some steam, some walls coming down, and enjoyed seeing more from the different academies. From previous books, Paxton was the bane of Mari's existence, he couldn't handle his emotions and did a horrible job expressing himself. He stepped up at the end of book 2 and then he goes all protective of Mari in book 3. He has the secret of hers (knowing her heritage from Loki's ambush) and he tells Mari not to tell the others, which puts them all at a disadvantage. Mari has to deal with her growing powers which she doesn't have a good hold of. She is worried people will realize what she is and turn on her. We have more clashes with 1/8 and others, but we know who the guys belong to anyway haha.

I was sorta surprised about the 2 baddies working together, but I really shouldn't have been. There were clues and I get them both being so selfish they didnt care about the consequences, as long as they got more power. I loved seeing Mari hold her own and help save people (and liked seeing her friends step up as well). I think Zack continues to surprise me how much I liked him haha. He had the good head on his shoulders and wasn't always focused on the steam, he tried to focus on other things and keeping peace with everyone. That cliffy was pretty bad, not gonna lie haha. I am so glad all the books were available to listen to by the time I started this.

Narration again confused me because we went back to Marnye and kept the same male narrator. I wonder if Marnye wasn't available for one and the other narrator stepped in, not sure. I think the French accents for Ares and Hector really took away from this audiobook, which is why I would give the audio 3.5-4 stars. The rest of the performances were great though, which is why I would round it up to 4 stars for the narration.
