The New York Times bestselling author of The Unhoneymooners returns with a witty and effervescent novel about what happens when two people with everything on the line are thrown together by science—or is it fate? Perfect for fans of The Rosie Project and One Plus One.
Single mom Jess Davis is a data and statistics wizard, but no amount of number crunching can convince her to step back into the dating world. After all, her father was never around, her hard-partying mother disappeared when she was six, and her ex decided he wasn’t “father material” before her daughter was even born. Jess holds her loved ones close but working constantly to stay afloat is hard...and lonely.
But then Jess hears about GeneticAlly, a buzzy new DNA-based matchmaking company that’s predicted to change dating forever. Finding a soulmate through DNA? The reliability of numbers: This Jess understands.
At least she thought she did, until her test shows an unheard-of 98 percent compatibility with another subject in the database: GeneticAlly’s founder, Dr. River Peña. This is one number she can’t wrap her head around, because she already knows Dr. Peña. The stuck-up, stubborn man is without a doubt not her soulmate. But GeneticAlly has a proposition: Get ‘to know him and we’ll pay you. Jess—who is barely making ends meet—is in no position to turn it down, despite her skepticism about the project and her dislike for River. As the pair are dragged from one event to the next as the “Diamond” pairing that could launch GeneticAlly’s valuation sky-high, Jess begins to realize that there might be more to the scientist—and the science behind a soulmate—than she thought.
“Laugh-out-loud, sweet, charming, and humorous” (Library Journal, starred review), The Soulmate Equation proves that the delicate balance between fate and choice can never be calculated.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Not their best novel. It was predictable, even for a romance novel. And the initial conflict is resolved much too early. The summary frames this as an enemies-to-lovers setup but they fall into a trap that a lot authors seem to. That is, forgetting that the breaking down of hostility and almost unwanted growth of affection and attraction is 90% of the fun. I ended up skipping the entire middle of this because the chase was all but over within the first several chapters. It immediately killed the tension and there really wasn't much left to engage with. It just went sugary and light, which was boring after about two chapters and it was obvious the story would then follow a pretty generic line of progression. So, if you're thinking of reading this because you love a good enemies-to-lovers story or are wanting even a modicum of depth, I'd say skip this one.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved this book it was so cute. I adore all of the characters. River Pinea sounds like it would be a beautiful exotic place, not a huge hearted nerdy scientist with an awesome idea to help people find their soulmate

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I liked the Gilmore girl vibes of Jess and Fizzy and Juno. There's some quick wit and cute chaos and lots of coffee! For some reason I just couldn't get wholly into this book and I think it's because of how anti-everything and overly insecure Jess seems in regards to the relationship.
Overall it was a pretty decent read but not one that had me drooling and daydreaming.1 person found this helpful

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I enjoyed the characters and the loosely Pride and Prejudice feels. Great characters and I love a fun kid written in. Maybe I just had the bar high for this duo. Josh and Hazel i adored so this was still fun but not quite met my expectations. However it is a nice enjoyable read.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Super cute story about a struggling single mom with a great supporting cast. When she meets the guy at the coffee shop who is creating a startup using DNA to match people with their soul mate, she completes the test on a whim. Never expecting to find herself matched to the smart guy at the core of it all. What follows is a bit of a whirlwind but a fun little romance as well.
