About this audiobook

""I cannot remember the last book I loved as much... a luminous, heart-achingly beautiful love letter to friendship. Knockout!"" — Josie Silver, New York Times bestselling author

International bestseller Mhairi McFarlane explores lifelong friendships, long-buried secrets, and unexpected love in a heartfelt, emotional new novel, perfect for fans of Evvie Drake Starts Over, The Two Lives of Lydia Bird, or In Five Years.

Eve, Justin, Susie, and Ed have been friends since they were teenagers. Now in their thirties, the four are as close as ever, Thursday night bar trivia is sacred, and Eve is still secretly in love with Ed. Maybe she should have moved on by now, but she can’t stop thinking about what could have been. And she knows Ed still thinks about it, too.

But then, in an instant, their lives are changed forever.

In the aftermath, Eve’s world is upended. As stunning secrets are revealed, she begins to wonder if she really knew her friends as well as she thought. And when someone from the past comes back into her life, Eve’s future veers in a surprising new direction...

They say every love story starts with a single moment. What if it was just last night?

""[A] book I almost wish I’d written, except that would have robbed me of the intense joy of reading it... the kind of novel that will have you putting everything else on hold so you can keep turning pages until you reach its sparkling, brilliant end.” — Emily Henry, #1 New York Times bestselling author of People We Meet on Vacation

First off, this really isn’t a romance novel. In fact I wish I could give it half a star less because the romance feels really pigeon holed in and not well developed, which was a little disappointing, but this book is still so so good. The exploration of loss and friendship and unrequited love is really really well done. I truly enjoyed every moment. The narrator is also fantastic which really makes or breaks an audiobook

So so good. Less about romantic love than the other kinds of love (and loss) we experience in life. Really beautifully done and realistic dialogue, developed writing, and truly witty overall.
It is honestly a major pet peeve of mine that so many authors use a death as character development, or ready made climax/tension in a novel, really trying to wring some tears and sentiment out of you. Its a cheap trick and is usually so poorly done it makes me sick. Having lost family members, some young and by surprise and senselessly, the portrayal in this novel was so spot on for me that it made me feel sick in a totally different way - the way it does when its too real. It was beautiful. I will say i could have used a BIT more fluff to recover after. But thats not real life is it.

Wow! It was so well written and extremely raw and satisfyingly honest. You found yourself in her shoes. It was all of the emotions and funny too! I never wanted it to end. It has inched its way into my heart forever. Please do a part 2 ? I have never wanted to hear more from a love story then right here! ?✨️

This book had some heavy topics. Felt like it took. Little while to get to a good happy part. Good ending.

I loved that this wasn’t anticipatory at all. It was so good. Kept you guessing at all corners.

Not as predictable as your typical romance novel. Enjoyed it even though there are some sad topics.

Loved it, so much heart and as always great writing. The narrator did a really good job bringing the characters to life.

So good! The comps are spot on, so as a fan of Josie Silver I was keen to give this author a try, and now I’m a fan. Really well executed story of a young woman growing from a tragedy; she perfectly captures the way it feels to lose someone you love and who is a part of your every day, that fat wrenching twist every time you think for a second of texting or telling them something and then realize you can’t. The narration is fantastic too. Just the uplifting story I needed for right now.

The heroine in the story deserved that happy ending, in fact, she and the person she ended up with are made for each other. I love that while reading I didn't know or realize that I was already rooting for them, even before it became obvious that it was them who will fall for each other.

One of the best audiobooks I’ve listened to in a long time. Took me a chapter or two to understand the British accent. Book had me laughing and stunned at the same time.

This is not a romance. This is a story about dealing with the grief of losing a loved one and the things you find out about them afterward.

If you are going into it knowing that, I think it will be more enjoyable. It was the bait and switch that made this just okay to me.
