About this audiobook

""A romantic comedy that's fun and flirty, young and fresh."" – Popsugar (22 of the Best Books This Winter Has to Offer)

One of Oprah Magazine's 22 Romance Novels That Are Set to Be the Best of 2020

Mia Sosa delivers a sassy, steamy #ownvoices enemies-to-lovers novel, perfect for fans of Jasmine Guillory, Helen Hoang, and Sally Thorne!

A wedding planner left at the altar? Yeah, the irony isn’t lost on Carolina Santos, either. But despite that embarrassing blip from her past, Lina’s offered an opportunity that could change her life. There’s just one hitch… she has to collaborate with the best (make that worst) man from her own failed nuptials.

Marketing expert Max Hartley is determined to make his mark with a coveted hotel client looking to expand its brand. Then he learns he’ll be working with his brother’s whip-smart, stunning—absolutely off-limits—ex-fiancée. And she loathes him.

If they can nail their presentation without killing each other, they’ll both come out ahead. Except Max has been public enemy number one ever since he encouraged his brother to jilt the bride, and Lina’s ready to dish out a little payback of her own.

Soon Lina and Max discover animosity may not be the only emotion creating sparks between them. Still, this star-crossed couple can never be more than temporary playmates because Lina isn’t interested in falling in love and Max refuses to play runner-up to his brother ever again...

It had potential to be good, I just couldn’t get passed the constant repetition of woe is mes. I assumed the book would lead more towards the aspect of the ex fiancé playing a role to but he was almost always left out, which surprised me.

I liked this book enough. It was light and fun. The female narrator was great. The male voice actor was not. He was okay for the MMC but when he voiced other characters it sounded like he was mocking them, especially when voicing what the women were saying. It was ridiculous. It’s my first romance audiobook so I wasn’t sure if that’s just how they always sound but I came on here and enough people agreed so I guess I wasn’t wrong.

It’s fine. Not great. Completely predictable. The banter wasn’t great either. The biggest thing to me was the ending left me not feeling satisfied for some reason. I just feel like something was missing. Maybe the last chapter should have been in the other characters viewpoint.

Great book and storyline but the male narrators imitation of a woman was horrendous. Like nails on a chalkboard. I had to stop and start so many times and eventually skip past the parts when he was imitating.

This was a fun story, yes a little risqué with the whole your brother is better vibe but still a fun story. My only issue is that even though that I would’ve enjoyed it more if the woman read all the female parts and the man read all the male parts. His reading of the female parts in particular really took me out of the story.

The story was cute, witty, and funny.
The male narrator BOTCHED his reading. It was extremely hard to listen to this book due to the male narrator. If I was the author I’d demand a re-read with a different male reader. The book definitely would’ve gotten 5 stars from me but the male reader…. Just TERRIBLE.

The story would get four stars. The performance would get 2, so I am averaging it. The one flaw that I found with the story is that I really wish that the Portuguese would have been translated-- even in thought-- by the main character more often. I feel like I missed a bit of what her mother and aunts were saying. The story was sweet, and cute, and just what I needed.
The female narrator was GREAT. The male narrator was not. Not even a little. His female voices were grating, and the male voices that were not Max where also obnoxious and whiny. I found myself wishing he would have just read in a his normal voice, because his normal voice was nice.

I quite liked the story (the ending did feel a bit rushed though) and loved having a Brazilian-American main character, but what I could not get over was the male narrator. The voices he chose to use whenever characters other than Max talked sounded as if he was making fun of them. This did take me out of the story almost every time.

I really liked this to begin with. I liked the characters of Max and Lina and the glimpses of Brazilian culture. As another reviewer mentioned, I did find it slightly annoying that the Brazilian Portuguese didn’t always get translated or explained but I can see it would be difficult in an audio book. I also wasn’t keen on the voice that the male narrator used for Lina although I did like the use of a male and female narrator for the Lina and Max chapters.

However, what spoilt the novel for me was the ending. SPOILER ALERT. Lina is supposed to be this great professional wedding planner but she has no qualms about making a speech at her cousin’s wedding (just after her cousin has warned people not to do this) and upstaging her favourite cousin. That lost it a star.

Story was decent but could not stand the male lead character when he would make other voices. So very annoying and I had to sped through those parts.

Story is ok, cute and predictable. The nail in the coffin for me was the male narrator. The female was good. The male narrator was fine as Max, however any other character was awful. It sounded like a comedian mocking someone. It was so distracting.

Max is asked by his brother, Andrew, to tell his fiancée, Lina, that Andrew can't marry her. He does this on the wedding day! Lina is a wedding planner, and this is the ultimate embarrassment-she couldn't even get married herself!
Now a few years later, Lina is offered an opportunity to be the wedding coordinator at a prestigious hotel. One problem, she is assigned to work with Max, who was to be the best man at her wedding, and who delivered the devastating news that Andrew wasn't going to marry her.
As they work together, their attraction is undeniable. Max worries about being a second choice in Lina's life. Lina worries that Max is not in it for real.
A spicy romance with some witty banter.

Romcoms are mostly a hit or miss for me and this one is just in between.

This was a cute and fun romcom and there are a few moments that I got bored with the interaction between the characters nevertheless, I manage through.

I liked the male voice of Max but I didn’t liked it when he tries to read Lina’s lines with that whiny thrill voice.

Very sweet story. I really liked the story lines and the way things progressed. Not sure I am a fan of the male narrator's impersonation of Lina's voice but it didn't take away from the story as it was only slightly distracting.

Enjoyable story. Would have been better if it was a duet recording as I found when the male narrator, Wayne, did the female voices it was very jarring.
