Oof, this book. The second half wasn't too bad, and there was character growth, but the whole first half was so terrible that it was a really big struggle to get through. I only finished it due to it being the book of the month for book club. The ethics were so questionable, and I don't feel their growth made up for it. It only started improving around chapter 25/40, which is too late imo. I don't care how good a character growth is if it makes the character insufferable for the majority of the book. It also had a love triangle, and I preferred the other guy, which sucked, until I realized he deserved better and luckily he got better. It also turned religious... not too much, it wasn't terrible, but slightly strange.
