About this audiobook
Her quest is straightforward: Steal a stone from Islor's sacred garden without anyone discovering her true identity, which would earn her certain death. But the identity she has inexplicably assumed is that of the captured Ybarisan princess-an enemy to Islor after she poisoned their beloved king and queen on the day she was to marry the prince.
Her betrothed, the newly crowned King Zander, detests her with every grain of his handsome being. Zander gives her a choice: life in a cell, or an acquittal of all charges in exchange for her help in exposing the growing plot against him.
Romeria sees no other option and embraces the tricky role of smitten queen-to-be until she can escape. As she digs deeper, she discovers monstrous truths that could spell ruin for all.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I was excited to read this, but like another review said, the narrator is too distracting to enjoy it. Every word is separated. It’s really hard to concentrate when the narration is so lifeless and robotic. If I wanted that, I’d just paste a book into one of those online readers.
I’d like to try giving it a read, but I’m disappointed the audiobook isn’t an option since I like to listen on my way to work or while doing household chores.2 people found this helpful
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Advice from other reviewers, which I fully agree with:
- listen at 1.2 speed
- stick with it - at least a couple of chapters in until you get to the fantasy world
- you will get used to the narrator ( actually she is very good with accents and distinguishing among characters)
The story itself is very engaging once you get into it; the usual fantasy trope - 'the chosen one'; a bit of a Mary-Sue type of heroine; an enemy-to-lovers / fated mated romance, low on the steam spectrum, good world-building ( a lot of infodumps, but not heavy enough to make it unintelligible and it makes sense as you learn things at the same time as the MFC).
I have listened to both books in 3 days ( the second one is just as good ; although the setting is different as for the entirety of book they are on the road, the story itself is just as interesting) and planning on listening to the 3rd one when it is released.1 person found this helpful

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have to admit I had no faith I would like this book. The beginning was slow, but in the end I totally fell for it! The MC is a great heroine and the romance with Zander is heart warming and hot.
Also, my congratulations to the narrator! She did a fantastic job bringing these wonderful characters to life.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5If you only listen to the first couple of chapters you will hate the narrator. However it gets much better once the actual story starts.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It was pretty good plot, slow burn romance. There were parts that felt like a history lesson and were a bit boring. I did like main characters.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I actually really enjoyed it (dare I say love? I’m always hesitant to hand out 5 stars but that ending is tempting me to) and whilst the narrator seemed a bit stiff at first, I got into the flow of it and enjoyed that too. I have heard narration far worse. I cannot wait for book 2!! I would recommend if you enjoyed FB&A and/or the ACOTAR series. Whilst it was a bit slow at first it really sped up/improved as the story went along- just give it a chance to.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Very surprised.. I honestly didn't Think this book was going to be This good.. I only started listening to it because I'm waiting for another book in one of my series To Come out

Romeria is a thief, but after she stole from a crime boss's family she is now under his 'employment' and steals what he wants in New York City. After encountering Sophie at a party where she was sent to steal cuff links, Romeria then finds herself in Sophie's employment and is sent to steal a stone. But Romeria soon discovers this stone isn't in any place she knows, and she is trapped there, in the body of a princess, who was supposed to wed the prince of the king and queen she is accused of murdering.
But that isn't the only strange thing that is going on.
First impression: the narrator was irritating. Her voice was monotone, and while narrating she added emphasis to the last words in just about every sentence, as if she was trying to sing the sentence. (I almost gave up, and this cause a ½ star loss. *I rate books on how much I enjoy them.) But during the dialogue, thankfully, she didn't do that, she spoke 'normally', and she did have good voice changes and accents for the different characters.
But the story itself was good, it moved along at a really nice pace, though the beginning had more action, and I did have my guesses at who was doing what, and was mostly right, though I still have other suspicions for the next book in the series, which I do want to read, where I hope this world's history, magic, and monsters are forefront instead of only brushed over as in this first book. (Yes, there is a reason for the vagueness, but a little more, especially monster/magic action, would have made it more interesting.)
The characters were well developed, as was the world. The plot is similar to others of the same genre, but there is a really good twist with the characters that made it more interesting.
There is some violence, not too graphic, but there is 'adult' content which makes this book not appropriate for readers under 18.
3 Stars - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Started out very strong and lost my interest towards the end.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Really picked up the more I listened. I'm glad I wasn't just reading from text. When will we see the next book????
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The book started off quite boring, but quickly progressed towards the end. I loved it!
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Narration is ruining the book so far. The narrator isn’t suited for the storyline, maybe more fitting for a childrens book? I don’t know if I can continue listening to her

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5*Narration gets better*
Great story just get past the first chapter or two.
The intro then the first 1 or 2 chapters the narration is pretty bad. Hit speed to AT LEAST 1.2x it gets significantly better as the narrotator finds their grove.
Awesome and unique story. Looking forward ro book 26 people found this helpful
