"Suspenseful, sexy, and with incredibly entertaining storytelling, the first in Yarros' Empyrean series will delight fans of romantic, adventure-filled fantasy."—Booklist, starred review

"Fourth Wing will have your heart pounding from beginning to end ... A fantasy like you've never read before."?Jennifer L. Armentrout, #1 New York Times bestselling author

Enter the brutal and elite world of a war college for dragon riders from USA Today bestselling author Rebecca Yarros.

Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.

But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away … because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant.

She’ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise.

Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom’s protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret.

Friends, enemies, lovers. Everyone at Basgiath War College has an agenda—because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die.

This kept me captivated through the whole book. Though i was hesitant to listen bc of everyone saying the narrator sounded gross. It was as bad as what they made it out to be...I cannot wait for the second book!

Ok this book was cute for what I can see from the other books available from this author it looks like this is her first fantasy book soo knowing that this was good, not great but just good

Now when it comes to the narrator she was clearly sick and very congested but once you get chapter 18 you can’t hear it anymore for me that wasn’t too much of a big deal I got passed it
but what really got me annoyed ? was that she tried to change her voice when other people were talking which most time I think it’s great but the issue was that she would get tooo excited when argument or fights happened that she would mix all the voices and you can’t really not tell who that hell she’s trying to talk like and it felt like she was yelling at you and I didn’t like that soooo I was giving her 1 1/2

The book is amazing, great story! Love the action and details. The only bad thing I have to say is the narrator's voice...she was clearly sick and is quite ? to listen to her, it's distracting. I will be reading the book just to be sure I didn't miss anything important because of hear sickly sounds.

I thought the book was wonderfully entertaining. What I didn't care so much for was the narrator.

I’m not a big fantasy fan but picked this up after reading ACOTAR. It’s a great story line and very very good. The ending was a great cliff hanger. I’m excited to see where this series takes us.

This book was incredible. The authors writing style was mesmerizing, and I just couldn’t get enough of the characters and the plot. I love how the romance isn’t the main aspect of the book, but gently woven in. The slow burn is real, and I have a real book hangover now. I NEED book 2!!!

On TikTok, I kept seeing those awesome Basgiath War College hoodies. I had no clue what they were from and I had to find out. Unfortunately, now that I know, I realize that all of those hoodies are wrong and it makes me mad. Anyway, I am happy that they led me to these books. I read this book twice already this month, and I may turn around and do it again. The story is so vivid, and the action scenes, give me such good pictures. I can’t tear myself away. I can only listen to this book when I’m doing nothing else because I get so sucked in. I forget that I’m doing anything else. Such a great book. I can’t wait till the new book comes out. I am actually going to reread it for a third time just because I love these books so much.

If I had to offer any negative opinion about this book, it would probably be the fact that I am sick of having every female lead lusting after guys that end up being jerks. And throughout the entire book, simpering for the male character in the story. I wish a female lead could just be a female lead, and stand strong and independently on her own. The fact that she is surrounded by men to protect and watch over her because she is so weak and frail is a trope I wish we could get away from. This is the one thing about the story I don’t like. Other than that, it’s amazing!

It is magical, mysterious, only a bit hot towards the end. Buuuuut, there are DRAGONS!! That is always good for me ☺️
It is easy to read, with good character development.
There are some plot mysteries, some are obvious but not the others.
All in all, I want to read the next one!
Of course, it ends in a cliffhanger, so make sure that you have access to the next book before you finish this one.

Wonderful story, exciting, love, betrayal, danger, intrigue. I really loved the voice of the narrator she sounds like a twenty year old and her delivery is perfect. Looking forward to a sequel book two should be amazing. The reader/ narrator at the end lacked the masculinity and commanding power for the role.

I personally did not dislike her voice as much as others seem to. Actually, I dislike his voice at the end quite a bit. Overall, the plot is much more enjoyable and fleshed out than I expected. I blasted through it in a week and wishing there was more.
