About this audiobook

No matter what city she calls home, Jodi always gets stuck on the wrong side of town, in boarded-up houses and roach-infested buildings, in rooms with thin walls and in tents beneath the overpass. When Jodi finally comes into some money, she decides to treat herself to a refurbished apartment in one of those up-and-coming kinds of neighborhoods. At last, she finds the silence and stillness that she’s always longed for. But not everything is what it seems in Jodi’s dream home. As the strange sights and sounds accumulate, Jodi begins to realize that something is very wrong in her middle-class paradise. With her gorgeous neighbor Aly by her side, Jodi investigates the things that go bump in the night, and discovers a sinister plot that’s stirring beneath all that perfect peace and quiet.

Good audio reading. Holly Glass has a good writing voice, but the story was not compelling enough. The characters are enough reason to read this but the suspense promised isn’t delivered as chillingly as it should. I only say this because the writer seems more than competent enough to do better but didn’t push through. Also, though I do love that we get to read erotic scenes, there’s more than the necessary amount of it in this novella or short story.

I loved this story! It was excellent the way the author made sensual consensual exploration the counterpoint to all the lack of safety in the world of Jodi and Ali. I love how to menace of gentrification was explored for the villainy it contains. I enjoyed the silent communication between the lovers as much as their few words. The story conveyed more energy and meaning than many long novels. Well written. Well done.

The story itself was pretty cool. HOWEVER, I felt like there were too many sex scenes for a story with only five chapters. I could have done without half of them and the story would have been even better.

Not my genre of book at all. Will give this author a miss.
