About this audiobook

Local reporter and bonafide burnout Caroline Hedstrom may not have what it takes to become a hard-hitting journalist, but she’s seen enough to know a thing or two about how the world works. For her, life is pretty easy: Write a story, take a paycheck, and go home to the bottle and the barn out back. But when a wave of grisly violence rattles her North Dakota home, Caroline is at a loss for words. As she digs deeper into the story, Caroline discovers just how hot a good search can be, and how dangerous her pride really is. Will the thrill of desire be enough to tether Caroline to the real world, or will her thirst for truth push her over the edge?

I really wanted to like this as I both like mysteries and romance but I felt that the writing was just too cliché. MC is just the caricature of this pugnacious journalist character who is supposedly very passionate about stuff and drinks brandy but it feels like she does not know what she is doing. I do get that it is hard for a short story to convey the characters and atmosphere but everything was very generic to me. I did not feel engaged into it. All in all, I think everyone is taking themselves way too seriously.

Pretty decent for a short book, simple cast and story telling

There was absolutely nothing about this audiobook to like, and that’s the bottom line.
