Description

LSU shut New Mexico out on Saturday night getting a 38-0 win in Tiger Stadium. The LSU defense held the Lobos to just 88 total yards and two first downs while LSU put up nearly 700 yards of offense themselves. While the Tigers' schedule gets significantly more difficult in the month of October as they take on the Auburn Tigers, Tennessee Volunteers, and Florida Gators in consecutive weeks, Brian Kelly's squad has shown significant improvement and much more consistency throughout the first four weeks of the season.
First, we saw LSU QB Jayden Daniels spread the ball around and take advantage of LSU's deeply talented WR room. Ten different Tigers caught balls against the Lobos, including WR Jack Bech who Brian Kelly said he wanted to get involved early and often in Week 4. Malik Nabers continues to impress and has emerged as one of Daniels' favorite targets and young guy Chris Hilton continues to get more work and experience in this offense. Plus, the LSU offensive line has finally found some consistency. After switching up the offensive line three times in as many games, they stuck with the same roles in Week 4 as they did the week before, including a sandwich of two true freshman at the left and right tackle positions. LSU continues to make improvements on offense just in time for SEC play.
Also, the defense dominated against the Lobos. True freshman Harold Perkins flexed his power and versatility Saturday night and Jarrick Bernard-Converse stepped up big time filling in the safety position, which he hasn't played in years, while several members of the secondary heal from injury.
