Description

LSU football hosted a scrimmage in Tiger Stadium for the annual spring game. Fans, families, recruits, and even LSU football alumni like Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase all packed the walls of Death Valley to get the first glimpse at Brian Kelly's squad in his second year in Baton Rouge. The offense and defense tied 32-32, to which Brian Kelly joked, "I would've gone for two."
Starting quarterback Jayden Daniels and backup Garrett Nussmeier each took snaps under center, each tossing two touchdowns and neither had a turnover. Even though Kelly named Daniels the starting quarterback in January and doubled-down by saying “we think he is committed to being the best quarterback in the country,” we saw the development and improvement from Nussmeier while putting his big arm on display. Nussmeier threw a 51-yard bomb to WR Brian Thomas on Saturday in Tiger Stadium.
Along with the QBs we saw other offensive players breakout and shine. While we knew Malik Nabers was going to be a favorite target of Daniels as he was last year, WRs Kyren Lacy and Landon Ibieta each made big plays and continued to prove LSU's strong and deep WR room this season. While the LSU RB room lacks depth now with Josh Williams and Armoni Goodwin out with injury and John Emery Jr. working to become academically eligible, we saw former Penn State transfer Noah Cain show off his offseason development and newcomer Trey Holly make a case for himself to be a contributing factor for the running backs.
