Description

Most people believe that it is a foregone conclusion that Quinn Ewers will be the starting quarterback for the Longhorns when they take the field on September 3rd against Louisiana Monroe. Don't believe me, go check the Heisman odds on any reputable site and tell me which name you see in the Texas quarterback room. Hint: It's not Hudson Card. However, that foregone conclusion has been far from set in stone as neither quarterback has been able to separate themselves thus far from the other. With Card, we're hearing about him not playing loose, some happy feet in the pocket and not being able to deliver the deep ball consistently. With Ewers, it's mechanical inconsistency, not knowing the playbook and ultimately turning the ball over too much. I think both QB's understand what is in front of them, which is why it was reported on Monday that Quinn Ewers took some extra time to work with position coach AJ Milwee before and after practice. With 18 days until the season, each practice and rep is more important than ever. Say what you want about the kid, but it seems that Quinn Ewers understands the moment. Also, the Longhorns dealt with a lot of key injuries after the fall scrimmage. As we know about sports, it's a next man up mentality. With losses to key contributors such as Isiah Neyor, Junior Angilau, and Roschon Johnson, we talk about who is most likely to step up at those positions and give Steve Sarkisian and his staff the jolt of electricity they were looking for. Whether it's Jake Majors on the offensive line, Agiye Hall, Casey Cain or Troy Omeire, at receiver, or Keilan Robinson or Jonathan Brooks at RB, these players are going to have to step up for Texas to achieve the type of success they are capable of. Last but not least, Kelvin Banks made the true freshman All American list at On3. Banks, who has been the talk of camp thus far, looks like he will be the day one starter at left tackle. He also looks like he'll be really good at it. He's well on his way to earning postseason awards as well. HookEm
