Description
EPISODE 65 - Clark, Hyung, and John first discuss whether Conn Smythe and Norris Trophy winner Cale Makar (as the MVP of the 2022 NHL playoffs and best defenseman, respectively) of the 2022 Stanley Cup champion team – the Colorado Avalanche – is worth investing in right now. Then also off the top of the episode, they get into what they thought about the recent $2.4M sale of the highly publicized Lebron James Triple Logoman Panini Flawless card (and whether the $2.1M sale of the Lebron James Exquisite Collection rookie patch autograph card numbered to 23 with a BGS 8.5 grade was a better deal).
For this week's Hobby Headlines, the guys name some cards or type of cards they are no longer actively buying because of the current sports card bear market (in other words, which sports cards are they taking off their watch list). That includes no longer targeting injured stud players who are expected to come back soon as well as lower grade cards and flagship cards of hot prospects.
Then just as in last week's episode, they revisit a segment called "Chasing GOATs" where they compare the highest sale price of some iconic GOAT cards to the last sold price, and talk about if it's a good time to invest in these GOAT players at current prices or if they believe prices could go down even further. The cards discussed include the Stephen Curry Topps Rookie Card (PSA 10); Wayne Gretzky O Pee Chee Rookie Card (PSA 8); Tom Brady Bowman Chrome Base Rookie Card (BGS 9.5); and Derek Jeter SP Foil Rookie Card (BGS 9.5).
And they close off the show with the weekly segment, "Pick One" where they put up two cards each and subsequently debate which one they rather invest in. The pairs for this week include: Paul Goldschmidt 2011 Bowman Chrome Rookie Autograph Card (BGS 9.5 True Gem) for $380 vs. Yordan Alvarez 2018 Bowman Chrome Autograph Rookie Card (BGS 9.5 True Gem) for $600; Jayson Tatum vs. Devin Booker; Stephen Curry Topps Chrome Rookie Card /999 (BGS 9) for $7,500 vs. Kevin Durant Topps Chrome Refractor Rookie Card /1499 (PSA 10) for $7,500.
