Description

EPISODE 71 - Clark, Hyung, and John give their guess on whether the Mickey Mantle 1952 Topps (SGC 9.5) will hit the eight-figure mark and discuss some of the crazy story behind this iconic card.
Then in this week's Hobby Headlines segment, they go over the recent The Athletic article titled, "State of the sports card boom: After sky-high surge, is the market still healthy?" (paywall), in which a number of people within the hobby were interviewed. They go over some of the main quotes including from representatives of PWCC and Panini America as well as Ken Goldin of Goldin Auctions and Adam Martin, co-owner of Dave & Adam’s Card World. Then the guys discuss whether they agree or disagree with any of their statements about the current state of the hobby.
Next the guys play "Over/Under" where Clark gives an over/under number for three specific cards. Then Hyung and John guess whether the last sold price went over or under Clark's number. The cards they discuss are Patrick Mahomes Optic Holo Rookie Card (PSA 10), Kevin Durant Topps Chrome Base Rookie Card (PSA 10); Fernando Tatis Jr. Bowman Chrome Rookie Autograph Card (BGS 9.5/10).
They end the episode as usual with "Pick One" where they name two cards or sets, and then debate which one they would rather invest in. The pairs chosen this week include: Mickey Mantle 1951 Bowman PSA 10 (POP 1) vs. Mickey Mantle 1952 Topps PSA 10 (POP 3); 1990s Refractor Cards vs. 1990s Insert Cards; Aaron Judge Bowman Chrome Base Rookie Autograph Card (BGS 9.5/10 at $1,200) vs. Paul Goldschmidt Bowman Chrome Base Rookie Autograph Card (BGS 9.5/10 at $300).
