Focusing on Mindset
In most self-help books, the emphasis is on help
but often overlooks the importance of the individual’s self.
They tend to promote positive thinking as some kind of ancient magic that modern humans have lost touch with. The common advice floating around suggests that by asserting your happiness every morning, success will follow effortlessly. However, the real world doesn’t work that way, and these guides fail to acknowledge that for ordinary people, maintaining positive thinking is incredibly challenging. It’s not easy to look on the bright side when it seems like there is none.
The state of the world itself presents countless reasons for negativity, such as the rise in depression, anxiety, and substance abuse among Millennials, and the increasing challenges posed by climate change and global tensions. On a personal level, everyone faces struggles, whether it’s job loss, grief, relationship breakdowns, or health issues. In the face of adversities, our natural instinct is to protect ourselves, hoping that the problems will disappear on their own.
Unfortunately, ignoring the negative aspects or mindlessly repeating positive mantras won’t bring true change. Revenge against the challenges won’t solve anything either. Instead, the key lies in not letting negativity affect or define us. It’s like taking a baseball bat and continuously fighting back against those difficulties. The process will be demanding and ongoing, but with practice, it becomes a part of who we are.
Genuine removal of negativity from life is not entirely possible; the bad will always be present. The goal is to learn not to be swayed or changed by it. Imagine yourself as a negative person by default, but with determination, you can transform into a positive individual. The seven steps outlined in this book serve as valuable ingredients for achieving positivity, but they won’t be effective without addressing the underlying negative mindset – which is the crux of the matter.
To draw an analogy, consider a cake: even if you have all the right ingredients, precise measurements, and culinary skills, the cake will fail if your oven doesn’t work. Similarly, positive thinking alone won’t bring about significant change if your mindset remains negative. So, the key is to focus on mindset first, and then employ the tools of positive thinking to create lasting self-improvement.
A mindset refers to your core attitude, which significantly shapes your beliefs and actions. It’s not your life or external circumstances that need changing, but rather, it’s you who must change. Even if you appear physically healthy, disciplined, and optimistic on the surface, you may still find yourself feeling miserable every night.
If you are seeking an effortless solution or a quick fix to ward off misfortune, this book may not be suitable for you, and it won’t provide much assistance. You might want to postpone reading it until you genuinely believe in your ability to transform yourself.
However, if you’re utterly drained from your current emotional state and are genuinely committed to putting in the effort to become truly positive—rather than merely pretending to be positive—then get ready, because you’re about to encounter the genuine magic of positivity.

Taking Care of Yourself
Imagine you are on an extended road trip, facing many hours, perhaps even days, on the road ahead. As you continue your journey, you notice that your car’s fuel level is dropping. You spot a nearby gas station, but for some reason, you decide to ignore it and push your luck by driving further. Eventually, your car runs out of gas, leaving you stranded on the road. While you have options to deal with the situation, the fact remains that you put yourself in this predicament due to your irresponsibility in ignoring the gas gauge.
Though this analogy may get the point across, it’s unlikely because most people have the common sense to fill up their tanks
