    The Weight Loss Journey

Many people in today’s society want to take the first step to lose weight, but they don’t know where to start. The idea of beginning a healthy lifestyle can stem from various reasons. There are people who want to build up their body image and confidence in themselves. Others want to appear more attractive or improve their general health. Some people may need to reduce their weight because of medical reasons. No matter the reason, there are many factors that need to be acknowledged before embarking on your weight loss journey.

The term weight loss has many components that are associated with it. From diets to exercise, one can often become overwhelmed with all the elements that play a role. The emotional element in weight loss is often not thought of before jumping into a weight loss plan. It is important to note that human beings are emotional creatures, and our feelings drive us throughout the day. The nature of our emotions subconsciously dictates how our physical body responds in kind. This can lead to situations of emotional eating, which further influence our weight gain. Embarking on a weight loss journey requires us to understand all the components that go into it. Amongst these components, there are two fundamental aspects that are imperative to acknowledge.

The first is making a commitment to your weight loss journey. There are many people who struggle with losing weight as it doesn’t happen in a ‘timely’ fashion and ultimately, lose the motivation to continue. In order to lose weight, the right way, one needs to understand the long-term commitment that is needed to pursue a healthier lifestyle.

The second aspect is knowing when you are mentally ready to lose weight. This transformation into a healthier version of yourself not only affects your body, but your mind as well. Your mind needs to be strong enough and willing to face the challenges that will appear upon your journey. Embarking on a big change that you are not fully ready for can destroy your state of mind when certain things don’t go the way you would like them to. This leads to demotivation and a complete loss of faith in yourself, which hinders the change that you were trying to make within your physical being. Often, this leads to a person gaining even more weight as opposed to the excess weight they wanted to reduce. The secret is to make sure you nurture the soul and mind along with the body. By doing this, you create a solid foundation for a successful weight loss program.

The question is, how can the soul and mind be cared for? Again, there are many factors that need consideration. Yoga, meditation, mindful eating, and self-hypnosis are just a few that are used. These have been verified as great ways to improve the state of many mental and physical conditions, including weight loss. The exploration into the power in which these methods have to improve your overall state of mind is fascinating. To be truly satisfied with your physical body, you need to be one with your mind and soul. By being in sync, your weight loss journey will see a complete change in your general health, happiness, and productivity.

A successful weight loss plan comes down to being able to balance all the factors that contribute to it. You can’t solely focus on one and neglect the others as this will lead to an unstable foundation and you can’t build on that. A sound plan is reasonable, efficient, and viable. Have faith in your body and trust in your mind to get you through this renewal into a better and healthier version of yourself.

    CHAPTER 1

Can Your Thoughts Change Your Body?

Deciding to convert to a healthy lifestyle is not as easy as just beginning a diet. There is more to losing weight than that, which many people do not understand or even consider. This way of thinking can make losing weight challenging and often it becomes a burden to those who do this. It is found that many overweight people suffer from various forms of mental health disorders. It is common for these people to look for security in something, and more often than not, they find comfort in food, which is known as emotional eating. Unfortunately, what many people do not realize is that emotional eating may cause a repetitive cycle, that is the primary cause for many failing to lose the weight they wanted to.

How does this cycle begin? It starts when a person goes on a diet to lose weight. They either set goals that are unrealistic or the diet is restrictive and unsustainable. This causes the person to become demotivated if they don’t see the results they were hoping for. Some will give up the diet and go back to their old habits, while others experience negative thinking. Inevitably, they seek the comfort of unhealthy foods and gain more weight rather than losing it. This circles back to the idea of starting a diet again, and the cycle continues. We often want to reap the rewards without actually putting in any effort, and when it doesn’t go that way, our mental health takes a hit.

It needs to be understood that it essentially comes down to the thoughts that roam through our minds. Our thoughts and emotions play a significant part in how we approach a lifestyle change. Having a negative perspective on food and restricting yourself to an intense diet is a major cause of the way we think about losing weight. This restrictiveness subconsciously motivates a person to binge on their favorite unhealthy foods.

Before transforming your lifestyle and possibly repeating the cycle, consider what your body and mind calls for. Every person is unique, and what works for some may not be the best plan for you. In order to achieve the right plan and routine, you need to take the time and figure out how your body works. This links into the state of our mental health. If you are not mentally capable, it is difficult to acknowledge what your body needs.

Being aware of our thoughts, behaviors, and feelings grants us incredible strength in our emotional health. We learn to cope with our mental/emotional issues in healthier ways. It’s a fact that many situations can interrupt the processes that we used to build up that strength. This initiates changes we didn’t expect. Positive and negative changes influence our body’s responses to the situation. This ultimately affects the way we act, feel, and think. To describe this
