    Preface

    Life is beautiful.

Life is also difficult full of challenges, disappointments and heartache.

We all have those times in life when everything just goes wrong, all seems lost, and dreams are shattered.

We have done all we can do, we have tried everything and we just can’t get pass this roadblock.

Whether it is a mistake we made or something someone did to us or just life and it’s challenges.

Perhaps it is a long list of setbacks or one large set back, we have a choice, we can give in, or we can take control. By taking control I mean; Leran, Let Go and Live!

    Life again is beautiful.

The idea for this book came to me as I was experiancing some very difficult times in my life. Struggling to sleep, I couldn’t think of anything else but my troubles. I was losing my self-concept. In many ways, I was trying to find myself again, and that can be a challenge at any age, but I was in my early sixties. I was just recovering from a strange medical problem that, for a time, caused me to lose all my balance. I went from an active life to ambulance rides, hospital stays, and finally to using a walker. The illness made it impossible for me to get around on my own and caused difficulty in focusing, constant headaches, nausea, and vertigo. I got around with the help of family and friends. Even though I am extremely grateful for all the assistance I received, I didn’t realize how humbling it was that at age sixty-two, my wife and daughter had to take me to the doctor’s office—holding me upright as they walked me down the hall to the doctor’s office—and help me understand the questions the doctors were asking me. Over time I improved, and just as I was able to drive myself, I got some devastating news at work. Feeling like I needed to start over, find a new job, and deal with this setback would not have been easy at any age, but given my station in life and being emotionally weakened, I took it very hard. I spent hours by myself contemplating what I needed to do to move forward in my life. I know others have it more difficult than I did, and some are facing greater challenges and setbacks than I was, but for me, it was very difficult. Comparing my situation with others’ didn’t help, nor did it help me figure out what I needed to do.

What is a very difficult problem for some may not be so for others. Each experience is an individual one, and I learned I needed to approach the problem from where I was, not from where others were or on the basis of how they would react. Others telling me that it wasn’t that bad, that I was making it worse than it actually was, or that worse things had happened didn’t really help. Perhaps I knew that, but I couldn’t deny the feelings of anxiety and depression I was feeling. I believe that when we talk with others about a problem they are facing, we need to go where they are and deal with it from there because it is very real to them, as it was to me.

I decided that it was time to look for another job. However, it had been so long since I’d had a resume that I needed my daughter’s help in writing one. It is never fun to look for jobs, but with my state of mind at the time and given the age I was at, the challenge was looming larger with each passing day.

As time went on and I become emotionally stronger and more balanced, I was able to put my life’s events into perspective. Then this thought hit me, a revelation of what I needed to do, and thus began the collection of ideas for this book. I realized that what I really needed to do was to Learn, Let go, and Live.

I was not living well, and unless I could learn what I needed to from these experiences and let go of the anger, , resentment and discouragement I was feeling, I could never really live. But if I was able to learn to let go and live, I could live better than ever before. I could rid myself of the baggage I was carrying irrespective of whether I was at fault or someone else had done this to me. It didn’t matter anymore. Whatever the case, I had to learn from it, let go of it, and live, and live better than ever before.

This book is meant to be a simple approach and comprises some simple suggestions that will help you decide how you are going to learn, let go, and live. There are thousands of books out there by people much more educated than I, who have completed endless studies and can say studies show. Those are great and have their place; I have read several and learned a lot from them. But I remain as one of you, looking
