Make Your Day Happy - Dennis W. Rhoades
Introduction
Welcome to…
MAKE YOUR DAY HAPPY!
I would like to introduce myself. I am Dennis Rhoades, a physician in Family Practice. For 40 years I have taken care of people in private practice and Urgent Care. During that time, I have learned many things. The experiences I have had and the people I have met prompted me to write down a lot of my experiences. Looking over these memories, I thought some of them would be educational for others. The subject we are discussing in this book is happiness. In these pages I discuss simple, everyday changes to help you produce a delightful day.
Why did I put this book together? First, I know we need more happiness in our lives. When you are happy, everything is easier. Second, certain people are naturally happy. Others struggle each day to find enjoyment in routine activities. I want to help everyone find a little happiness each day. Third, I enjoy writing so much, it makes ME happy.
I do have a request. If you like what you read, tell your friends. You can also leave a review.
About the book…
Why a happy book? Well, most people want to be better versions of themselves. Having a good, happy
outlook is the best way to start on the journey to your better self.
I have separated the day into five parts, each with its own chapter. Each chapter takes us into a section of our day. As we journey along this path, I will introduce SIMPLE, easy to understand ideas. Ideas that will show how your mind, body and spirit work together to create happiness. It is amazing how small adjustments in eating, breathing and thinking change your day.
The chapters will be easy to read with a length conducive to finishing the book in a day or two. The topics and discussions are appropriate for anyone. Your middle school student and your grandparents can read it with ease and enjoy it. This book is for students and those who work in offices. It is also for retired individuals, distant learners or folks working from home. Everyone will find good things within these pages.
Why a book with short chapters? I discovered keeping each topic short and concise improved my ability to learn. By learning in small bites, your brain retains the details, especially if I do my job and make it fun for you to read.
This book is also an introduction to holistic thinking and healing. If holistic concepts are new to you, they will be easy to learn. If you are a person versed in these topics, the book may still offer you an idea or two.
There are scientific references throughout the book to support the claims I present. A bibliography at the end gives credit to the people who took time to research the topics. This also gives the reader the opportunity to view the source material and read more on the topics.
I hope you are ready to dive in, so let’s start!
Chapter One GOOD MORNING!
It IS a GOOD morning! My grammatically incorrect saying
is, Every day is a good day, some are just
Gooder than others.
The start of any day can have many variations, like a box of crayons. Now understand, I am talking the HUGE 152 count color assortment, not the basic five color box. So much variety, it is hard to imagine all the choices, or all your days. Is your morning an Unmellow Yellow, Robins Egg Blue, Hot Magenta or basic Black? Would you believe there is a Macaroni and Cheese Crayon? How would you like to wake up to a Caribbean Green morning?
The simple truth is we all wake up in different ways on different days. And there is scientific evidence showing the way we start our morning sets the tone for the rest of our day. A study reported in the Harvard Business Review shows this idea very well. Customer service representatives completed surveys throughout the day and over several days. Those who began their day happy stayed happy through the day. These people also found helping customers boosted this happy mood. Those who woke up as Grumpy Gus, were testy all day, even after interacting with people who were positive. (Rothbard, 2016)
So, there is your scientific proof. The first few minutes of our morning influences what we do, feel and how we react during the day.
You know those perfect perky people
