Acknowledgments
First, I would like to Thank God Almighty for having His hands on my life and for everything He has done for me. I just cannot thank Him enough. I am beyond grateful to give birth to another terrific book and this is still just the beginning. I am humble, blessed, and thankful for those who have been there throughout this process by praying for me or just being a listening ear. I would like to send my love to my mother Sherry Ware who is resting peacefully in paradise watching over me who set the standard, so I had to raise the bar. I wish you were here, but I know you are. To my father Carl Cain who has always been there for me without hesitation. Words cannot express how much I love you; Daddy and I hope you are proud of me! To my one and only child Kenneth Ware, I love you dearly son and no matter how old you are you are still my reason. I am thankful for all of you: Teresa Powell (grandmother), my siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and associates. Finally, my spiritual family Moma Mary and Daddy Winston Whitten, who have been on this journey with me for a long time. Thanks for the continuous prayer covering, your love, your support, and your words of encouragement.
Introduction
Life is full of so many distractions coming from people, places, and things that can hold you back and prevent you from following your dreams. In this book, I want to help point out some of those things that can stop you from moving forward in life. If you are ready to be free and live the life you dream of, keep reading because you must hear this for yourself. Many times, we find ourselves moving in circles without making any real progress. We allow people and things to drain us, worry us, and get us off track and we wonder how we got so far off. We are too concerned and consumed by everyone else and not focused on ourselves. We wonder what they are saying, what they are doing, and who they are hanging out with, which is none of our business. We spend too much time on social media looking and listening to drama stories, lies, and comparing fake lifestyles all day, waking up every day doing the same thing over and over. I don’t think some of us are aware of the cycles we are in and the ones we are creating. We set goals for our life that we never see to completion because we cannot stay consistent because of the distractions. We talk about the life we want to live but we do not put in the work it takes to live that life. We do not want to do inner work and endure the inner healing process to move forward into living the abundant life and seeing our dreams manifest. We cry about struggling and robbing Peter to pay Paul, but we do not position ourselves to win, instead we whine.
All it takes is an eye-opener and a push from someone who was there before but refused to sit in their mess and continue to have a pity party. I realized nobody was coming to save me, so I had to save myself. I realized no one was going to help me until I got up and helped myself. I realized no one was going to show up at my house and turn my life around for me. So what did I do? I took full responsibility for my life and was honest with myself about where I was and where I wanted to be. And where I was at the time just wasn’t working anymore for me. I was stuck in a rut, broke and miserable. I was working two jobs and still struggling. I know, sad but it is true. And this is the place that so many find themselves in right now and refuse to do anything about it. They would rather fake it until they make it, I guess that works for them. But until you get serious and become sick and tired of everything around you and really want to change, nothing will ever change. And that’s my story! I got tired, tired of feeling stuck, tired of struggling, tired of living paycheck to paycheck, tired of giving and pouring into others just to be left with an empty cup while they are full, and tired of being a help to everyone else but when I needed help, I had no one! I was sick and tired of myself because people were only doing me what I allowed them to do. When I started setting boundaries and standing on my word, I became the bad guy, and I really didn’t care. For me to live a better life and see my dreams come true, I had to let some people go. I lost people who I loved dearly, but I had to walk away and not let them continue to hold me back. Choosing me was the best choice I ever made. I was sick of the fake checkups, the fake smiles, the fake friendships, and all. They could have it. I left it where it was and walked away freely to get myself together. I know you can relate.
I was not raised into wealth, so wealth had to come from me. I was raised in poverty. All I had ever known was the struggle, and because of it, I developed a hate for it. I know hate is a strong word, but I am being real, honest, and transparent. I HATE POVERTY! I HATE LACK! I no longer wanted that to be a part of my life anymore. So, what did I do again? I got up! I started to seek God like never before. I fasted and prayed until I got a vision from the Lord, and He revealed His plan for my life and gave me strategies to work the vision. But there was still some work I had to do for myself and on myself. I had to do the inner work and go through a healing process from past hurt and life experiences too. I had to go within me and open my eyes and realize what was around me. I had to examine the people, places, and things to which I was connected. I had to face reality big time. I asked myself, self-do you have a circle or a cage? Are you spending time together with people who are just holding onto you just to say they hang with you or what?
Truth be told none of us was making progress in life. I had to start removing everything and everyone who was not going anywhere and was stuck and comfortable with their behavior and lifestyle. No, they were not bad people, and they were not responsible for where I was, but they could have become a distraction from where I was going. So, let me ask you, Do you have a powerful circle or a pitiful circle? Better yet, do you have a supportive circle or a supportive cage?
Take a moment and think about that. Truth be told, you already know the answer. Be careful because we become just like the people we hang around. And we become codependent on the wrong people. You do not need them; you need you. We hold onto the ones we should have let go of a long time ago. You do not have a good influence on them, and they do not have a good influence on you. Call it what it is! Dead weight! Let it go! In 31 Days in 31 Ways, I will be shedding light on the darkness that surrounds you. You may think it is not affecting you, but when you are going places in life and you are trying to stay focused, you must remove anything and everything that holds you back. No distractions!
Distractions
What is in your way? What is holding you back? Whatever it is, it’s a distraction, and it is time to remove it out of your life. It is time to get your focus back. It is time for you to remove anything and anyone that is in your way, not going
