Pain changed us, but we can survive.
We can be free.

Trigger warning! This book contains deep and dark details of situations and feelings. Most of these poems and journals you read in this book are based on real-life situations that others have experienced or felt emotionally. As you read, you will be experiencing what goes on in the minds of those who suffer from mental illness and those who suffered through tough situations. You will also read some stories that relate to me personally, but I will let that remain a mystery. We all have a story to tell. This book is to show you that you are not alone. We all go through hard times and feel things that we don’t want to feel. and the world expects us to hold it in and stay silent. Well, I am here to tell you that you don’t have to. I am writing in hopes that those who find themselves in dark places will be able to find some type of hope and motivation to keep fighting and make it through and know they are not alone. The only way we lose in life is if we give up. When you find yourself in a dark place, you constantly must remind yourself that this is not a permanent situation. Life will never be perfect no matter how much we try to make it that way. We all have flaws, and there is no such thing as a perfect person. Every relationship, friendship, job, parents, and family has its ups and downs, but we must remain strong and work through them. It is OK to walk away from the people and things we love when it starts to become unhealthy and toxic for your mind, body, and soul. Help yourself before you help the ones around you. Everyone needs to take part in self-care mentally, physically, and emotionally. I learned that setting small goals for yourself is lighter on the shoulders and makes a huge difference when it comes to being overwhelmed. Do not be so hard on yourself. Your only human and we all make mistakes. Do not ever compare your success to others—this is not a competition—and we all need to learn to lift each other up. We all have our own pace, and it is especially important that we do not get discouraged. Being mentally free takes time and dedication and strength. If you do not like your situation, only you can change it. Only you can give yourself what you need. It’s a lot easier said than done. Trust me. I know. When you start making yourself a priority and learn to love yourself, everything starts to fall into place. So if you fall, get up and try again. Only you can make a change, and only YOU can make YOU happy.

What’s the point of life? I mean, seriously, why are we here and what is the real purpose? How do we stop being a prisoner of our own mind and live happily ever after? Life doesn’t make sense to me, and I’m sure everyone can relate. Not everyone was dealt a good hand in this game we call life. Most of us are trying to play the hand we are dealt with the best way we can. Some win, some fail, and some of us are stuck between winning and losing, and that’s where life gets difficult, trying to reach the winning goal and struggling not to fail. We have two perspectives in life, and that is looking at life and situations in a positive way or in a negative way. Which one are you? Either way, who am I to judge? I’m playing this life game with you. Some days we think of the worst and hope for the best because we are afraid and tired of being let down. Some of us believe that if you think positively, you can talk great things into existence. Either way, we all deal with life differently, but
