The Complete Guide To Positive Thoughts - William Daniel
Introduction
This is not an intensive program, it’s an easy to use guide for anyone looking to expand their knowledge about healthy positive living.
*I am not a doctor, and nothing contained in this guide should be considered medical advice. The contents are things I have learned and used to improve my own physical and mental well being only.
The Complete Guide To Positive Thoughts expands upon concepts covered in The Beginners Guide To Positive Thoughts. It’s perfect for anyone looking to learn how to start or continue to live a positive lifestyle. All of the steps contained here are things I did when I began to transform my life over 15 years ago, and continue to do to this day. They’re some of the most important parts of my journey from a selfish, negative self-centered human being to the positive, conscientious, self-aware, spiritual being I am today.
As we begin this journey keep in mind there is no quick fix and there are no shortcuts to living a positive lifestyle. It requires patience and practice. Growth is gradual, incremental, give it time and dedicate yourself to taking even the smallest of steps. If you do this one day at a time, one step at a time, one breath at a time, you will achieve positive growth along the path of life.
This is your journey, I am only a guide making simple suggestions. You can do as much or as little of this as you want. There are some concepts and actions more important than others but for the most part you are able to choose the ones that fit you best and mesh with your own lifestyle.
I do encourage you to at least try them all and give them a fair chance. There may be certain things that at first glance don’t seem like they will work, but when practiced become one of the things you wish you had started sooner.
Proper Breathing
One of the most important places to start if not the most important is with breathing. We all breathe and know it is vital to life, but breathing correctly is often overlooked when trying to live a more healthy positive lifestyle.
Every part of the body relies on oxygen to perform correctly. The benefits include, but are not limited to better sleep, reduced stress, improved neural function, and improved performance to organs and body functions.
Focused breathing can also help heighten our awareness by bringing us into the present moment. Which is where all life occurs.
People can stop smoking, get out of the city for cleaner air and this will help but, proper breathing is more than lung capacity and fresh air.
The entire body needs oxygen, but in order to get the most benefit from it there are certain simple techniques that need to be employed.
Meditation which has been scientifically proven to improve health starts with proper breathing. Even if you are not trying to enter a meditative state the same principles can be applied to everyday life.
I’ve been breathing all my life so why do I need to practice it?
While it’s true that we have all been taking in oxygen and exhaling co2, most of us have not been breathing.
Simply mastering the basics will have huge benefits to your overall health, and make your body very happy.
The first thing to learn is to always inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth. This is most important so I’ll repeat:
always in through the nose slow and controlled and out through the mouth slow and controlled, with a slight pause in between.
If you practice this for only a couple minutes a day, in almost no time you will be doing it naturally employing it as your normal breathing.
*In nearly every athletic or calming skill you will ever learn the great coaches and teachers talk extensively about breathing.
If you can master breathing then there is nothing you cannot align your mind and body to achieve.
Now that we know the basics, the first sort of breathing you should learn and practice is belly breathing which is often clinically referred to as diaphragmatic breathing.
Start by sitting up straight in a comfortable chair or you may also lie down if you prefer. I don’t recommend sitting on the floor, at least in the beginning.
On the first try place your hands on your belly and take a slow breath in through the nose, as you do this you want to feel your stomach expand a bit like a balloon.
