    The Effects of Diet and Metabolism on the Body

    The failure rate of most fad diets is staggering, yet many people still believe that a calorie-suppressing diet is somehow the answer to the problem of obesity. The truth is that these types of restrictive diets are neither sustainable nor effective in the medium and long term, the human body needs nutrients and is not capable of adapting for long periods of time to an extremely restrictive diet. It doesn't matter if you are a man or a woman, low calorie diets slow down your metabolism. Restricting calorie intake is not an adequate or sustainable response to maintaining a lean and healthy body.

    The truth is that after going hungry for several days, all of these calorie limiting fad diets result in new weight gain and even greater weight gain than was previously gained by adopting these types of diets. The reason for this is that these diets create a lot of anxiety and not only that, they cause you to lose muscle tissue. With anxiety comes the compulsive need to eat and eat more once the fad diet is finished and we gain weight again very easily, these are definitely not sustainable eating plans.

    The problem that exists when restricting the consumption of calories is that our muscle mass decreases and the muscles are the ones that need and consume energy the most, therefore if the mass of muscle tissue decreases, the metabolism also decreases. Actually, a person with healthy muscle tissue consumes more calories than a person who remains at rest. It is therefore crucial to adopt a diet that feeds muscle tissue and decreases fat tissue.

    The truth is that low-calorie diets or diets that restrict the consumption of calories are not good for your health because they cause hormonal imbalances. By not receiving the amount of nutrients we need, our system generates
