    INTRODUCTION

    What is Ketogenic?

The Ketogenic diet, or Keto diet, is a healthy eating plan that helps to strategically reduce the consumption of carbohydrate into the body system replacing it with fat and forcing the body system into a state wherein it is forced to start burning the excess of stored fat in the body for energy.

Carbohydrate foods such as pasta, chips, bread, soda, candy bagels and others are nutritionally deficient foods which are calorie dense and once this foods are reduced or eliminated on a diet like ketogenic, the amount being burn surpasses that which is being taken on a daily basis and this is why generally, diets that restricts the consumption of calories are usually prescribed for the purpose of weight loss but the beautiful thing about the ketogenic diet is that besides weight loss, it embodies many other beneficial advantages.

    Glucose Vs Ketones

    What is Glucose?

Glucose is the body's default source for energy. Glucose happens to be the body's easiest molecule to convert and be used for the purpose of energy and with the readily available source of carbohydrate which glucose is produced from, the use of glucose is chosen over every other possible source of energy.

    What are Ketones?

Ketones are sources of energy produced from the breaking down of fat in the liver. And this happens when the body reaches a point of ketosis.

Ketosis is a natural survival state the body enters when there is a low intake of food; the body goes in search of the next available source of energy to sustain the body.

    Ketone Bodies

The ketones or ketone bodies are divided into three major types which are:

    Acetone

    Acetoacetate

    Beta-hydroxybutyrate

    Insulin

Insulin is a fat storing hormone that regulates the metabolism of carbohydrate and with the significant reduction in carbohydrate, insulin becomes reduce thereby allowing its stored fat to be available for use.

    KETOSIS & IT'S BENEFITS

When you deprive the body of excessive consumption of carbohydrate and take in more of fats the body system starts to enjoy a lot of other health benefits than goes beyond weight loss. In this book we will go over just a few of the advantages (such as a reduced level of insulin, increased brain performance, physical strength and many others) that come with the starvation of carbohydrates.

    Weight Loss

Essentially, the ketogenic diet makes uses of your body fat as a source for energy there by leading to the dieter enjoying a drastic loss of weight. From researches carried out by scientist, the ketogenic diet has shown better results in terms of weight loss when compared to low-fat high-carb diets.

    Controlled Blood Sugar Level

From a study conducted on 16000 men and women, the ketogenic diet was found to help in the reduction of the blood sugar levels of these individuals due to the type of food that they eat. Even when treating diabetes, the ketogenic diet has been found to be a more effective way to manage and prevent it compared to low-calorie diets.

    Mental Focus

Because of the change in source of body fuel, the brain becomes, more active and functional when on the ketogenic diet and most people specifically use the ketogenic diet for the sole purpose of increased mental performance.

    Increased Energy & Controlled Appetite

With the body being provided with a more reliable source of energy coupled with the fact that fats are more satisfying, the body experiences an increase in energy available and the rate of hunger becomes normalized.

    Epilepsy

In the early 1900's the ketogenic diet was employed as a method of treating children who had epileptic seizures. With numerous successful results, the ketogenic diet then enjoyed mainstream attention and till date remains one of the most used therapies for children with uncontrolled epilepsy.

    Cholesterol & Blood Pressure

The ketogenic diet helps in improving the level of cholesterol and triglyceride. With the increase in fat consumption and reduction of carbohydrate, a significant increase in HDL and decrease in LDL is being experienced.

    Insulin Resistance

If the resistance of insulin is not managed, it can lead to type II diabetes. With the reduction of carbohydrate in the body, the usefulness of insulin is eradicated leading to its gradual extinction eliminating the possibility of type II diabetes.

KETO FLU & TYPES OF KETOGENIC DIET

Keto Flu is the slight uneasiness or discomfort the body undergoes while going through the process of ketosis for the first time.

The body is being introduced to a new diet and it might take some getting used to for the system to completely adjust. The beautiful
