What are emotions
THE VAST MAJORITY OF us associate living with emotion. Consider spending time with a loved one, enjoying a beautiful natural spot while listening to your favorite music, or watching an exciting sporting event without connection to the emotional experience. We can experience the textures of life through our feelings. They are a natural part of our existence that we often take for granted; however, life is terribly empty without them. In fact, when our emotions are numb or shut down, we are simply surviving mechanically. We shut down feelings as a defense mechanism when we cannot manage or handle the discomfort they cause.
