About this ebook

Many people are trying to eat healthier and want the same for their dogs. Homemade diets are growing in popularity partly because the ingredients can be controlled, so there is no fear of dog food recalls. Some favor homemade diets because they contain whole food ingredients that are generally considered healthier than processed dog food.

Like humans, dogs have nutritional needs that must be met to thrive. A homemade dog diet should contain an appropriate balance of protein, carbohydrates, fiber, and fat. Vitamins and minerals must be added to the food to ensure it is complete and balanced.

If you are ready to start cooking for your dog, in this book, you will learn all you have to know about your pet's nutrition and find 101 healthy recipes that your pet will love.

VARIOUS FACTORS MOTIVATE people to try a new food or food preparation for their dog, especially if their dog is sick or has irritable bowel syndrome or something similar. Switching from store-bought food could be the solution. You'll probably get better quality food if you buy and cook it yourself. This guarantees that you know where your meat comes from and that it is fresh. When considering homemade dog food recipes, keep in mind that organic and grass-fed animals will provide the highest quality of meat to consume; however, don't feel bad if you don't have the means to do so; it is not required, and the fact that you care and are aware of what your dog is eating is the most important! Making your own dog food ensures that your dog isn't getting any artificial ingredients or vitamins, such as vitamin K3, a synthetic version of vitamin K1. Vitamin K3 can be dangerous to one's health. You also don't want your dog to consume meat by-products.

Unless your dog is highly active, meat should make up at least half of your dog's diet, mainly white meat. Dogs are frequently fed bones, but keep in mind that some experts advise against feeding cooked bones to your pets. Salmon is a great meat to incorporate into your homemade recipe or add to your already-made, natural, store-bought dog food. Salmon is said to be one of the healthiest things you can put in your dog's food because it is high in zinc and other nutrients. Fish contains vitamin D, which is an essential nutrient. If you do not feed your dogs fish, they should be given a vitamin supplement. It is recommended to consume small amounts of liver daily. Beef or chicken liver would be an excellent addition to your homemade dog food recipe. One ounce of the liver should be added to every pound of other animal products. Eggs are loaded with nutrients! If your dog weighs around 20 pounds, it can eat an entire egg daily; smaller dogs can still eat eggs, just not as many. Include the eggshells, blended, of course. Eggshells are high in nutrients like calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium. Plain yogurt, kefir, cottage cheese, and ricotta cheese benefit your dog's health. Other cheeses contain too much fat, so most prefer cottage and ricotta
