    Introduction

    ––––––––

I believe many of us are used to being enjoined, encouraged, or advised to finish what we've started. It's not that we do not have the best intention towards the assignment, project, task, or whatever it is we're doing but completing the task would just feel so painstaking. Ironically, a simple three-step of starting, facing the task squarely, and finishing would solve everything. However, it is easier said than done. This is because we normally encounter two difficulties when we're working on a task. The first one is starting. Despite how important it is for us to start, it's usually not an easy thing. Why? Most of us tend to be held by lethargy and fear which always make the starting phase appear super challenging.

Fear tells us we'll embarrass ourselves, we'll fail, the work is too hard, we can't do it, and it goes on with different related expressions that put us in a position where we can't move and then lethargy comes in. When these two work together, it can be very difficult to start. Their joint evil would then make the starting phase something that is out of our control. Our fear to embrace hard work will make us embarrassed and will make us remain stagnant.

The second challenge, which is exactly what this book focuses on, is finishing. After we've been able to summon the courage to start and defeat fear and lethargy, many of us have a high likelihood of giving it all up when we get to the middle of the journey. While more people are getting to master the act of starting, not many are masters of the art of finishing, which is very significant in getting anything done. While we should be working on finishing, we make ourselves vulnerable again to lethargy and fear that further bring in their other friends like distractions and procrastination to make us
