About this ebook

In Kick Your Social Media Addiction, an audio course from Scribd Coach, clinical social worker Roslyn Postlewaite helps listeners manage their approach to social media, with the goal of using social media as a tool for inspiration rather than a resource to drive your insecurities. In the course, Postlewaite explains how to take a break from social media platforms; how to use them for learning when you return; and how to turn to social media with wisdom, being mindful of the information you receive and how to apply it practically. She also shares exercises along the way to help you put what you’ve learned into practice immediately.

If you’re hoping to improve your relationship with social media and change how you interact online for the better, you’ve come to the right place. Postlewaite’s spirituality-based course is accessible and relevant to all kinds of social media users.

    Introduction

Hello and welcome to Kick Your Social Media Addiction: Understanding Your Triggers for a Healthier You, a Scribd course. My name is Roslyn Postlewaite.

Social media has become such an intrinsic part of our daily lives. So often, the first thing we do in the morning is to open our phones and scroll through our feeds to catch up on what we may have missed while we were sleeping. The same is true before we go to bed. We have to check our Facebook or Instagram feed one last time. Maybe we accidentally get caught up in scrolling TikTok that it’s an hour later before we even know it.

Throughout the day, it’s much the same. The second our notifications go off, we have to check what’s going on lest we feel like we’re missing out. In the haze of Pinterest-worthy first birthdays and picture-perfect families, it’s so easy to start comparing ourselves to others, wishing our lives were different.

What we fail to realize is that we’re only seeing a highly curated portion of that person’s life. We’re not seeing the 100 outtakes that happened to get that one shot or hearing the arguments that led up to the party. No, those are the parts we want to keep to ourselves. We want to pretend that everything is all rainbows and daisies every day, all the time.

But behind the facade, chances are there are a ton of cracks. You won’t even know they are there unless you know what you’re looking for, but once you do, you’ll see that everyone’s lives are just as messy and chaotic as yours is! They just may be better at hiding it.

Now, I consider myself a person who is very self-aware. I have a background in mental health and have spent several years in therapy working through my own demons. I’ve had plenty of come-to-Jesus moments with myself, my relationships, and my faith, and now I'm able
