You changed your hair again! Rick smiles as he pours charcoal bricks into the smoker.

I smile and turn around. Black on top, white underneath, gives me a daring look. I like to keep my style edgy. Shavon is the best colorist at my salon and I had her do me this morning, giving her a healthy tip for blocking out her usual clients.

Shavon outdid herself, didn’t she? I smile and run my hand over my hair. Spiky tips bend but spring back into place. Only the best of hair products on my tresses.

You look beautiful, my little pixie, Rick says as he kisses me. He calls me his little pixie because I’m short and eccentric.

Outside, a group of retirees drive by in golf carts, playing the nines. It’s a gorgeous spring day, the sun shines, the grass is radiant green, and birds happily chirp. Since moving to the exclusive golfing community, High Point Hills, I’ve developed a love for nature. Our front yard literally crosses the street to the golf course, which spans in all directions. The trees and ponds stretch toward the back, and our two acre yard has plenty of trees for wildlife. I love it.

Wonderful. Gained two new clients. The team is on a new campaign gaining more clients out of state.

Rick is the CEO of Curtis Investments and Portfolios. He’s quite accomplished for a man of thirty-two years. His career affords us the lifestyle of living in a golf course community. My career is the icing on the cake. I run an upscale salon in town, La Chevelure. I have four stylists working for me, and a receptionist and janitor. Rick’s salary enabled me to build it into a posh business and it thrives.

Our four thousand square foot home stretches over our land on one level. I don’t like stairs, thinking of when we retire, we’ll want it this way. It’s our forever home. Children aren’t a consideration at the moment. Maybe in a few years. Maybe not. I’m good with the status quo.

Our neighbors are the wealthiest, business owners, those with high salaries, and retirees. We have a good cross of ages here, but most are the youngest in their early thirties, to the retirees in their eighties and higher. We make up the younger crew. Many of us in our early thirties are our good friends. People we enjoy spending time with on the weekends.

Rick prides himself with our home. We hire the yard work with a local landscaping company. In fact, the owner of the company lives in the same community as us.

Dawson Mayvale stops by and comes around to the back where Rick is messing with the smoker. I step outside.

Hello!

Dawson looks up at me as he grins. Hi Elaine. Oh, wow, new hair style, he says and whistles.

Oh, you know me. I have to wear it to prove I can style it, I say and bring the meat rub to Rick.

I walk away overhearing Dawson’s words. You have one hotwife there, he says.

The smile stretches across my face. It’s good for Rick to hear such words from other men. I am a hot wife and he needs to know it.

It takes a complete day to smoke the pork, and by evening, we’re preparing to enjoy barbecue butts. The evening brings a chill in the air, winter clings to the season not fully giving way to spring. I shiver and pull a light blanket around me as we enjoy the meal on our patio.

Weather is warming up after this front passes, Rick says.

Pool time! I love swimming and our community has a big pool for the residents. A few of the homes also have smaller pools. We don’t, figuring we can walk up the road to the pool house.

Rick’s phone goes off. Ted, what’s up man, he says as he answers.

Ted Malcolm lives in our community and is one of Rick’s golfing buddies. He also owns a chain of grocery stores in our region. I’m friends with his wife, Joan.

Uh huh. Yeah. That sounds like a plan. We’ll be there. Can do. See you then, Rick says and sets his phone down.
