Hey, Allison!  I turn to see my wife walking up to one of the prominent members of the Nashville Chamber of Commerce.  It’s been a while since I have seen you.

They two women embrace for a moment before Allison replies, Lydia, it has been way too long!  Why haven’t I seen you atone of the Chamber’s meetings recently?

My wife looks back at me before shrugging her shoulders.  Things have just gotten so busy around here that Drake and I have very little time to do much anymore.  If we could go, we would be there every month.

Well, just know that you have both been missed.  Allison looks over at me and smiles.  Are you treating the love of your life very well?

I raise an eyebrow as I smile back at her.  I have been treating her much better than she has been treating me.  Nodding my head at three large plastic containers sitting nearby, I tell her, Lydia has got me putting up the Christmas decorations already.

My wife chuckles.  I know you don’t like the holidays all that much, Drake, but you could at least try to go along with everything for the sake of our business.

The shop is doing very well, thank you.

Allison looks at the new wall of guitars I have recently installed after Lydia and I had the music store remodeled.  Those are not cheap kid’s instruments are they?  She walks up to one of the guitars and looks at the price tag on its neck.  Oh, wow.  You could buy a used car for that much.

We are expanding, I say as I walk up to the two women.  There is a huge market here for better quality stuff, so we figured we would go ahead and try to get into that as soon as we can.

Have you upped your security in the store? Allison asks as she looks back at Lydia.

Yeah, and that wasn’t cheap either, Lydia complains.  More than a hundred dollars a month after spending five thousand on the system.

"But it’s a good system, I remind her.  We can’t have a million dollars worth of instruments and other products in the store without a good security system.  What we had before was a joke."

Allison smiles.  It’s good to see the two of you doing so well.  I have seen this look on the Chamber member’s face before, and it almost always means that she is going to ask us for money.  Last year your shop donated some of the food and drinks for the Christmas celebration at the city park, right?  She bats her brown eyes toward my wife and me as she waits for an answer.

I sigh.  Yeah, we gave some hamburger meat and sweet tea, I reply.

I was wondering if you would be willing to do that again?  Allison looks from me to Lydia as she knows that my wife is more likely to give in to this request than I. 

We can do that, Lydia replies.  The same amount of meat?

Um, sure, that would be great.

But, I say as I shake my head.  That’s not all, is it?  I worry sometimes that the Chamber of Commerce in our city tries too hard to stroke the local citizenry.  Sure, we all want to get our business names out there for prospective customers to see.  However, if it costs a large portion of our holiday profits to do so it makes very little business sense.

Since you asked, Allison says with a sheepish grin, There is one thing that we need help with at the Chamber.

What’s that? Lydia asks.

"Would it be possible for Blue Dog Music Company to cover the December Lights in the Park?"
