I think we should walk to the bus stop, Dalton says as he chuckles.  Not a single one of us is fit to drive.

We can call an Uber, Jase suggests.

"For six of us? I say as I laugh.  Man, I should have stopped after the third beer."  Though I’m not completely drunk, I’m buzzed to the point of feeling a bit lightheaded.  It’s not all that common that I go out to a local bar with my buddies anymore, but when I do, I don’t bother driving afterward.  Paul drove us all to the bar in his van, a throwback to the early eighties Chevrolet conversion vans that he’s reworked into a very nice ride. 

Fucking bartender wouldn’t even smile at me, Dalton complains as we begin to walk along the street.  There’s a bus stop a couple of blocks away where we can get a ride back to our respective neighborhoods.

She’s got a boyfriend, Paul replies.  She told you that like three times, dude.  You’ve got to learn when to cut your losses and just enjoy your time out with your friends.

She was hot, though, he laughs.  Fucking hot.  She can’t have a boyfriend.  I know she was lying to me.  Dalton shakes his head.  That’s my luck with women, though.  It’s as if they never see me for who I am.

A drunk with a penchant for women who are already taken? Mike jokes as he pats Dalton on the shoulder.

"That was one fucking time.  I swear, I didn’t know that she was married," Dalton replies.

"She had a fucking wedding ring on, Dalton.  A fucking wedding ring."  I laugh as I shake my head and follow just behind the rest of them.

It takes just minutes for us to reach the bus stop and some in our group sit down.  I stand beside the small shelter and just lean against the wall as I watch a nice looking couple across the street.  They appear to be waiting to be picked up by someone while they chat with each other.  There’s something about the woman that captures my attention.

What about you, Tom?  How are things between you and that woman of yours?

Sadie? I say as I turn to look at the other men.

No, your lover.  The one you keep in your closet at work.  Jase rolls his eyes.  Of course I mean Sadie.  How are the two of you getting along?

I shrug my shoulders.  Fine, I guess.  Things are good.

"Ah, to be married again.  Not."  Dalton laughs as he shakes his head.  My fucking ex-wife is the devil.  I hope I never see her again.

She’s an attractive woman, Craig says with a smile.  I can’t believe you let her go so easily.

She let herself go, Dalton fires back.  Lydia wasn’t interested in being married to me and went to find another guy to stir her coffee for her.  Fucking whore.

To be fair, you were having an affair, too, Dalton, Paul reminds him.  The men begin to argue over this as I turn my attention back to the couple across the street.  If I didn’t know better, I would swear that the woman I see is my wife.  She looks almost identical to Sadie.  I know this can’t be her, but still, my imagination begins to roam a little as I watch them kiss.  My wife Sadie is five-seven, athletic, with brown hair and blue eyes.  I consider her a goddess in her own right and enjoy our sex life together.  The woman across the street fits the description of my wife and is wearing a short, blue cocktail dress.  Her long, beautiful legs are on full display as she kisses and caresses the man with her. 

Fuck her, I say to him under my breath as I watch the two of them together.

What was that? Mike says with a chuckle as he looks over at me.
