Engrossed in the in-flight magazine, Linda didn’t hear the instruction to fasten her seat belt until the man next to her said, ‘Umm, we’re about to take off.’
She looked up in a slight daze. He gave her a reassuring smile, which immediately made her hackles rise.
Honestly! Was a stranger going to flirt with her on a short-hop flight to Jersey?
It seemed he was because, as she shut the magazine and clipped her belt shut, he asked, ‘What was so engrossing in that article anyway?’
‘Oh, nothing. I was just trying to take my mind off… things.’
‘Nervous flyer?’ he winced sympathetically. ‘Me too, though I’m better than I used to be. I went on an “overcome your fear of flying” course. Ever considered it? First they teach you breathing techniques, then they take you into a simulator and finally, at the end of the week, you’re on an actual flight. Of course, there’s a lot more to it than that…’
‘I’m not a nervous flyer,’ she muttered. ‘Please don’t attribute your own… attributes
