Christina wanted the day off today from the health food store, and I was happy to oblige her.  However, I did not know early this morning how challenging today would be for all of us working there.  A weekly promotion that seemed yesterday to be a dud, turned into a huge success for us today.  Who could have known?  I wished the entire day that I had asked my wife to work with us today, and almost called her to come in to help.  However, I decided to buck up and do what I had to do to give Christi the day to herself.  After all, she deserved it after all she has done around the store over the last couple of weeks.

My feet tired and a headache throbbing just inside my skull, I unlock the front door of our home and walk in.  Christi?  Hello?  I hear nothing at first, so I make my way toward the bedrooms and say again, Honey, are you here?

In here, she replies from the guest bedroom.  I turn and walk in through the doorway and see that Christi is looking at something on the computer screen.  Hey, how was your day?  She smiles at me as she turns around in her chair.

Um, well, I guess it was fine.  At this moment I realize that my wife has had her hair cut short, in a pixie style.  You have been busy, I see.

Christi glows as she smiles broadly.  Reaching up with a hand to touch her hair, which has been slightly spiked, she asks, What do you think?

I take a quick breath as I imagine my wife the way she looked just before I left the house this morning.  Well, I guess it’s nice, I tell her, suddenly realizing that this is probably not the sort of reaction she expects.

It’s great, my love.  I really like it.  Honestly, I don’t know what to think of what she has had done to her hair today.  I have never seen her with a haircut like this.  It looks a little like Sarah’s hair now, doesn’t it?

Christi frowns.  Sarah?  You can’t think of anything else to say other than my hair looks like hers now?  

I’m sorry.  I should have stopped to think about what I was going to say first.  It’s just that she has this sort of hairstyle and it even looks like...  I stop as I shake my head.  Have you colored your hair to be closer to her hair color too?  Walking up to my wife, I put my hand up and feel of her hair.

Dammit, Zane, you were not supposed to say anything about Sarah.  She gets up from her seat and walks to the other side of the bedroom.  I have offended her, but I am still trying to understand why she has done this to herself.  

Why are you trying to look like her, Christi?  I mean, you are trying to look like her, right?

My wife purses her lips as she looks hard at me.  At first, it seems that she might cry or even lash out, but instead, she says to me quietly, Zane, do you still think about her?
